SCHRADE 2OT
SCHRADE 2OT
I've been under a couple of impressions about the SCHRADE 2OT, one is that the handles were bone and another, though not necessarily related to the 2OT alone, is that bone doesn't shrink. Take a look at this pic and comment. Is it a rehandle or did the 2OT come with handles other than bone?

Re: SCHRADE 2OT
I think this may be the "2nd version" of the 2OT that had different bone looking something handles? I've seen these before, on 8ot's and 2ot's, all the ones I've seen were shrunk to some degree.

Re: SCHRADE 2OT
T.J. you have been disabused of your first impression because you are correct in your second impression. Those handles are that black shrinkie dink stuff used in the '40s & '50s (and maybe up into the '60s ).

Re: SCHRADE 2OT
A little off topic, but the gec 77 washington jack is very similar to the 2ot IIRC. since schrade went overseas, have they done a taylor 2ot? I have a teardrop jack that is decent I got a few years back. I don't recall seeing a real 2ot except in pics.

The 2OT is the reason I got a #77 Washington Jack. Very attractive knife.

Re: SCHRADE 2OT
Guess I learned something today, and that is a good thing. Since this is a knife that I am chasing, I am going to have to be very careful of what I might buy. Didn't know that the 2OT was made with anything but bone handles. Thanks for the lesson.

Re: SCHRADE 2OT
The 2ot is first seen in the schrade catalogs in 1961 alongside the 8ot. They had genuine bone handles and were the debut of the old timer line. I don't know when, where or why the shrinky dink handles came along. I think they came later, maybe they were one of the bone alternative handles that schrade experimented with. They are not common either.tjmurphy wrote:Guess I learned something today, and that is a good thing. Re: SCHRADE 2OT
The Schrade Walden 2OT was in the 1960 and 1961 Catalogs. This is when they introduced the 8OT in the same red bone. The 2OT was only produced for two years and it was only produced with smooth red bone.

Re: SCHRADE 2OT
Nothing new, but, I'm confused! Only bone? Second generation with something other than bone?

Would the OP then be a rehandle?

Re: SCHRADE 2OT
Check this thread out, it shines more light on these handles.

Here is a picture of an 8ot taken from the thread with the same looking handles (albeit better shape) as the 2ot in the OP.

Re: SCHRADE 2OT
My two cents is that those semi-covers on the OP don't look like the usual shrinkie dink handles that I've seen around - color & texture included. The person who bought it new musta dropped it and got it rehandled early on.
It looks like wood. If it is, it musta been rehandled with wood that was still green.

None of us really know, but I believe the OP knife to be an experimental, albeit an utter failure, and subsequently a horribly worn example. Very rare, indeed.I had never seen anything like this. Extremely interesting; thanks for posting this. The GEC legacy tribute knives to this pattern are really superb. They are actually a little larger knife.

The gec is on a 3 3/4" frame correct? Isn't the 2OT 3 5/8"?
