If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

I better add that I do not consider my niece "miscellaneous stuff." But I am finding it increasingly difficult keeping track of how many nieces and nephews I have scattered through the generations. Even more trouble trying to keep their names straight.

Had to get my old windmill repaired and serviced today. Had to call the Aermotor Company to find someone to work on it. They made this one years ago and they're still in business today. I use to maintain it myself but the wife says I am too old to climb the tower now. I could have done it. ::huff:: Would have been just fine - until I hit the ground!

The chickens are an assorted mixture of Rhode Island Reds, New Hampshire Reds, Cream Legbars, and a couple of mutts. Whatever they have at the feed store when I need a few. And seven crazy Guineas.

Mazie gets up there by jumping onto the roof of a small coop (currently housing some young pullets) situated at the end of the large chicken house, and from there up to the roof of the chicken house. She reverses that to get down. So far she hasn't jumped directly off the chicken house roof, but I'm sure she could if she tried. You can see end of the small coop in the picture below. The fence you see is six feet high. The other dogs haven't tried it (yet) that I know of.

My dog (Lehua) has chased many a jungle fowl in her younger years...even caught a few (not a pretty sight!). Now she just maintains the perimeter and keeps the feral cats, rats & mongooses (mongeese?) from stealing food from her supper dish.

And seven crazy Guineas.
- We have 13 (9 males and 4 hens) and they are truly entertaining and a joy to have around. We have 1 French White that weights about 12 pounds and he rules the roost.

Jerry - my driveway is 1,400' long and we used to have a driveway alarm to let us know when somebody was coming down. After we got the guineas in 2013 I took the driveway alarm down because day or night the guineas let us know whats going on - that's why they call them the farmers watchdog.

Yep, they're a great intruder alarm. They'll also set off the alarm if my cell phone rings, when I start the tractor, or any number of other incidents. They fly out of the fenced run, then run back and forth on the ground along the fence trying to get back in. ::woot:: They peck at their own reflection in the chrome wheel covers on the car. Every day! ::doh::

I bought a small Japanese Maple to plant in the yard. Sat the pot with the tree in it down where I planned to plant it, went to get the shovel. When I returned, the guineas had the tree surrounded and were roundly "discussing" it. It was something new!

I could go on and on. Guineas are a hoot but can also be annoying. ::dang::

Ours killed a 4' copperhead last year, hauled it up on their outside roost and let it rot in the sun.

We have a border collie and watching her herd them is worth the price of admission.

And my neighbors claim their eggs are the best they've ever had (I don't eat eggs).

We have 5 males and 2 hens. I eat Guinea eggs but my wife won't. Guinea eggs are tough, takes a really hard whack to crack them.

The interaction between the Guinea cocks and the chicken rooster is entertaining. The rooster is very protective of his hens and tries to keep the Guineas away from them, daily stand-offs with displays of hackles and jumping up and down but rarely do they ever come to blows. The rooster generally rules the roost but occasionally the Guineas gang up on him. Then discretion becomes the better part of valor, a chase ensues with the rooster turning tail and running. But he's not kept away for long - he's right back protecting his girls.

Then at night they all go into the chicken house and roost together in apparent harmony. ::shrug:: But the rooster occupies top rung on the roost, with his favorite hens beside him.
