2017 OKCA Show April 8th & 9th

Post by orvet »

It is almost time for the 42nd annual Oregon Knife Collectors Association annual show! ::ds:: ::ds::
I know Phil (philco) and a number of other folks are making the journey across country out to the Emerald Empire (Lane County Oregon) for THE SHOW!

We would like to have a dinner on Saturday evening, (at a restaurant, which has yet to be determined), but anyone who is interested in attending the dinner please let me know so I can have an approximate headcount. Last year we went to a Mexican restaurant only to find out that closed the week before. As it ended up we had a lovely dinner but we got such a late start dinner wasn’t over till 10 PM. That meant my wife and I got home about 1 o’clock in the morning and we had to get up at 5 AM to drive back to the show for Sunday morning. This year I intend to well make reservations in advance!

This link is to the OKCA website home page: http://www.oregonknifeclub.org/index.html

There are lots of helpful links there that will make your stay in Eugene more enjoyable.
The weather is unpredictable especially in April. We might have 80° and sunshine or 45° and rain. Expect the unexpected weather-wise, it is Oregon after all!

Oh yes, come expecting to see lots of knives and bring an empty suitcase so you can take some home!

If you are planning on joining us for dinner on Saturday evening please PM me, orvet, with the number of people in your party.

See you in Eugene!

I am really looking forward to this show. It will be my first ever visit to Oregon and obviously my first time at this show. I'm counting down the days. I'll be at the show on Saturday the 8th.
I hope to get to meet several other AAPK members there. Who else is going ?

This will be my first knife show and you can bet I'm looking forward to it. I'll be there Friday. I'll be bring about a dozen Imperial knife rolls. They were given to a friend after Canal Street Cutlery shut down. If you're a Schrade collector and are going to be at the show, let me know and I'll try and get one of these to you.

Awesome Doug!
I will be at table O-10, it is hard for me to get away during the show. Come on by and say "Howdy".

I do need a count from everyone who would like to go to an AAPK dinner Saturday evening. I need to make the reservations really soon, or we will have trouble finding a table for more than 4 people.
There is a Chinese restaurant that comes highly recommended and has s fairly quiet atmosphere so we can all talk, swap stories and knives. Wives and kids are certainly welcome!

HOWEVER, I do need a headcount so I can majo make the reservations.
If you plan on attending dinner Saturday evening, just post in this topic, let me know you are coming and the number of people coming with you.

Thanks,
Dale

I am out of here on Thursday morning. Just got the news letter and Dennis or whoever penned the April 2017 show update says "We will have it all at this year's spectacular 371 table all knife show". WOW this is going to be fun ::nod:: Got my camera ready. Will try to have some photos up Friday evening of the set up and Saturday/Sunday if I can get to it before I return. Lloyd

It’s usually around 350 tables give or take a few, I’m glad there will be more tables this year.

In 2006 they had 520 tables at the show. The building the knife show is in is one of those made so that they can partition it off in different sizes. As a matter of fact when I graduated from NCU about 2003 they had the commencement exercises in part of the same area where the knife show is held. The 2006 show was considerably bigger and they had two or three smaller sections in addition to the large room they usually have. As I recall a lot of the additional tables were displays that people had set up for the show. That was my first or second time to the OKCA show and I was kind of blown away! It was like KNIFE SHOCK & AWE! I think the next year I decided to get my own table.

Doug,
It is really cool that you get to see your first knife show and that it such a good one!

Best wishes to all the fortunate folks that are heading to the Oregon Knife Show. It is about this time each year i regret not being in the US for this auspicious occasion.
I do enjoy all the pics and chatter on this site leading up to and following this big week-end. Oregon is like a magnet in the world of pocket knives in the USA, and next week-end it is all happening.
My friend Doug Webber will be there with enormous expectations of what is about to unfold in front of him.
Have fun guys,
Tony.
