Cold Steel Traditional .... who made them?

Post by Brumbydownunder »

Hi Folks looking buying this Cold Steel Trapper .... Anyone know if they were made in-house or farmed out to another manufacturer ?? like schrade, queen, etc Definitely stamped "Made In USA" on the tang. Also interested in approximate date they were made?

Thanks in advance Derek

Camillus. Maybe 90's-2000's or so. Camillus also made cold steel's fixed blades for a time.

Cold Steel's "Carbon-V" is identical to the carbon steel Camillus used on many knives, e.g. the veritable #27 linesman's knife. I usually assume it was either a Camillus build or sourced from them.

As others have said, it is most certainly a Camillus made knife.

Also, afaik, Cold Steel does not make knives. They are a designer of knives and contract out for production.

Camillus made several knives for Cold Steel. The Classic folders and Trail Guide folders to name a couple. The Classics appeared in their catalog in 2001 thru 2006. So they didn't have a very long run.

Nice ones George. I have a carbon v recon tanto made by camillus, it's a good knife. The previous owner must have seen cold steel videos and duplicated the car hood stabbing with it though.

You are correct in that cold steel did and still does market and design knives then contracts them out to manufacturers. This is how they have always been as far as I know. Their marketing is absurd, but they seem to have improved that a bit lately
