Any info on this knife?

Post by Acknifes »

My grandfather gave me this knife a while ago and claimed it was some sort of cigarette or cigar packing knife. Wondering if this is true or if anyone has any other info on it. Has no markings besides the words stainless and Japan.
Thanks for looking

A pipe smoker's knife. The butt on the end is used for tamping the tobacco in the pipes bowl.

Welcome to AAPK. I agree 100% with Greg and can add that the blade on the right is used to ream the inside of the pipe. Priceless with lineage to your Grandfather.

It is a pipe smokers knife. The long pick is to loosen the tobacco if you pack it too tight. It also works to remove any tobacco that might get caught in the shank of the pipe. The blade is not sharp and it has no point. A point might make a hole through the cake at the bottom of the bowl and cause the wood to burn through. The blade is mainly used as a scraper to ream down the cake In the pipe so it doesn't get too thick and crack the bowl.

I would guesstimate it to be from the 1980s.
I would say it is good quality but not expensive; approx $10.
