what is the rarest case knife you have??

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

what do you use to take such good pics, just like the back coloring, and the overall saturation of the image.

I am by no means a photographer, I use an iPhone and a small photo box lol

Sorry I missed this somehow, but that P100 is a rare find. My paternal grandfather had one like it but it was red. Carried it every day. After he passed my sister acquired it - and has no idea what happened to it afterward (says she still has it, just doesn't know where it is)! ::teary_eyes:: I've never seen another one.

Sargent's 7th says the imitation onyx version (yours looks like imitation onyx) is a B100, says the red cracked ice version is an M100 but also lists several versions of the M100 with metal, blue celluloid, cracked Ice, green bone, and gold handles. ::shrug::

I used to use a mid priced Fuji camera that recently got stolen, along with a roll of knives and some other things. :x

My best shots were made by the lighting. A picture taken in the evening light always turned out best.

I went back and looked at the scans you referenced. All those were done with an Epson Perfection V500 scanner. It takes little skill to achieve good pictures aka scans.

Here is one I have never seen until I got this one. An old Case knife, 20's, stamped R Case Bradford, Germany. From what I have read, this was due to a translation era with the Germans. It is a small knife 2 3/8' closed. I would consider it rare. ::tu::

Very interesting, unique knife Tom! I've not seen that stamp. BTW, what book is that your picture is from?

Ken

Edit: Never mind, just saw on another thread you said it's from Witchers book - I have a copy here somewhere. ::facepalm::

I suppose different folks might attach different definitions to the word "rare." I won't claim these Case knives are necessarily rare, but I will say that they are not seen very often. Some were made in Germany, some were made in Jacksonville, AL when Jim Parker owned both Case and that Alabama facility, and some were made in Bradford.

The first one is a big 5" Lockback 51139L SSP made in Jacksonville, AL. Unfortunately, it did not make the transition back to Bradford.

The second one is a fairly rare Mammoth Ivory Mako with scrimshaw commemorating the anniversary of the Pony Express.

And, some more. The first one shown is a CASE TESTED S.C.U.S.A. TL-29 from the WWII era. The second pictures shows two Clasps that feature Smooth Buffalo Horn Scales. The third picture shows two Green Bone Folding Hunters made for Case in Germany. Next up are two different sizes of Folding Hunters with Finger Grooves - FG103L and FG104L. The larger of these is perhaps the largest folding Case pocket knife that I have. The Mother of Pearl Lady Leg was made in Germany, and finally the 3" Single Damascus Blade Razor (511098D)was made in Jacksonville as was the bigger two blade (4") razor (521500).

This one is heading to the restoration shop later this year. A super rare W R Case & Sons 6539 sowbelly. Hoping to get it back to the ballpark condition of the black and white photo.

This is my rarest Case knife, it's a B396, I've only seen one other, no pictures in any guide I've seen, the only mention I've seen is in an early Sargent's where the pattern number is shown, no picture, the action on this knife is the best of any knife I own, perfectly solid and not too hard. The knife on top is a 2346 and the one below is a 4226 (big peanut):

Y’all done scooped up all the good ones! I’ve loved looking through this thread. Amazing knives. The cigar patterns and the big 91 whittlers especially. Wow!

I only have one “mildly” rare one. This little WHITE HOUSE.

msteele, nice knife. I would agree on the scarcity of a B396. The main blade is also unusual for a Case (in my experience) with the nail nick where it is and the really long swedge that runs almost to the tang. The swell center frame reminds me of an 83.
