The Other Brands

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

I'm the one off topic Carmillus. Probably the Morleys don't go here. Here is a Dunlap 1920- 1930s to get back on topic.

Vit,

I think that Camillus (and also Utica) did make some contract knives for Case after WWII, however, in order to get more accurate information I would suggest that you post your question in the Case forum. I believe that knifeaholic would be able to supply particulars. The answer may be in his book, however, I don't have it handy at the moment.

There is a thread in one of our forums where knifeaholic listed the Case patterns that were contacted to Camillus but I haven't found it yet. Sill looking.

Collecting Case Knives is the books name.

Let me jump in here and answer Vit's last question.
knifaholic's book is "Collecting Case Knives", in fact there is now a 2nd edition of Mr. Steve Pfeiffer's work available. I haven't gotten the new one yet but the 1st edition is full of information and color pictures.

I bought the second edition of this book. I need a lot of time for a thorough examination, but I can say straight away that this is a grandiose work ::tu::.

Picked up this Fairmount, normally I don't buy celluloid knives but this one was in such good shape and the celluloid so pretty I went ahead. From what I understand Fairmount was a Camillus brand before WW2.

Thanks TJ! It is a very nice knife for its age. I like it a lot!

I might as well post the other one here too... A Craftsman 9548 Sta-Sharp Camp knife.

Heck yeh!!! That's a Grrrrr8 one too. What time frame would you put on the camp knife? It looks old but the "Craftsman" etch looks pretty modern.

TJ, I am told from a knowledgeable collector, that it is 1920's, to mid 1930's.

WOW! I just came across this list of makers and I think it comprises about half of the knives I own. Never realized they were associated with so many companies. I think I'll do a post of one knife from each of them.May take awhile though.

Ray I think the shorter list would be who did Camillus not make knives for! ::woot::

Here's a little Camco sheath knife I got the other day.
It's in decent shape. The sheath could use a little care.
