We're done with Evening Blue Fishnet Jigged Bone and on to Pink Amati Shell now. I think the end is in sight.

Stag, and Primitive Bone, how you guys withstand it.
I have a feeling there will be at least a couple members adding one of these to the GEC collection, only because they have to.

Re: French Kate
I wonder if they've ever released a knife in so many variations as this one? What a run...

Re: French Kate
I doubt that we'll ever see another run of French Kate which, over time, may make it a very collectible knife from a rarity perspective.
Re: French Kate
With 600+ on the production schedule how rare can they become?

Re: French Kate
600 knives with 11(so far)different handle materials.
That's not many, imo, if they don't run them again.
As I understand it, they were only going to run 35 of the primitive bone.
There are 10s of thousands of knife collectors.
Doesn't everybody need one more bottle opener?
I do.

I'm a bit surprised none of our faithful has popped for one or more.
Re: French Kate
I bought the Kate primitive bone proto, one primitive bone serialized, and two of the 25 total burnt stags serialized.
The stag is surprisingly good on these small knives.... well-matched, deep line, and gnarly.
Gnarly Kate.... I like it!

Re: French Kate
While I am waiting for it to arrive, I will post Gregs pics of the French Kate I ordered.
I like the UN-X-LD shield and the blade etching on the Stag's doesn't say 'French Kate'.

Okay, Kate's leg looks good in stag.
I'm not swearing off on getting one guys.

IMBand:
That is some really pretty stag!
And the detail on the shoe/boot is outstanding.
GEC did a great job on this little knife and the price is right, too.

I kinda like it. It's an old timey looking pattern to me and should be a real conversation starter when you pull it out of your pocket.
You have to give GEC credit on some of their patterns. They are not afraid of "going outside the box."
That boot bolster would be a complicated thing to make.

Re: French Kate
I recieved my French Kate and it is really very nice. I do have 2 comments on the one I
recieved. First there are no half stops, wish it had em. Second, the knife has pretty weak
snap, does not open or close like the other GEC's I have. Almost like an older knife that
is rounded over at the spring ??? Any other Kate owners experiencing this ?

Re: French Kate
In 2011 the #28 Leg knife came out with "Pink Awabi Shell" handles. Is Awabi the same as Abalone ? Although this reads as if a natural material, in this case a piece of marine shell, is it really this ? or is it a synthetic or reconstituted bits of real shell ?

Re: French Kate
It appears to be one of the species of abalone, perhaps one commonly known as the "Japanese abalone". There seem to be whole shells available online: http://orders.mopsupplies.com/p/9060442 ... tural.html
There is also a kind of sushi that uses abalone meat named "awabi sushi" so this could be a regional term that just took off in the MOP business.
The examples I see online aren't remarkably pink in and of themselves, but I did find a species of abalone commonly called "pink abalone" and there are a lot of blurred lines in the taxonomic classification of the abalone family. GEC could also have found a way to dye those lady legs.
