That's the same as saying to a man with no legs, "Your struggling to walk has inspired me to go for a run"! ::groove::
Just teasing buddy, ::handshake:: I hope you realize that! If ANYTHING I do can inspire someone to better themselves then have at it, I'm happy to be of assistance.
The knife I posted as my favorite is everything you think it is and more! As for the sound, it's exactly how you'd think a quality auto would sound, a loud "Crack" accompanied by wrist-twisting action! Everybody should fire such a knife at least once in their lifetime!
Thanks for your compliments, man, ::handshake:: and I'm looking forward to your future pictures!

LOL Marco! This board sure does inspire me. The first pictures that I shot with my cell indoors left a lot to be desired. Have endeavored to master the art of knife photography.

That custom of yours is quite spectacular! That is what a switchblade should be. I sure do like your lever lock too! No doubt AKC appears on a lot of Asian knives these days. It seems like Campolin opted to join on some, choosing to have some sort of beneficial relationship. The scales on your lever lock are reminiscent of a Ti-Lite. Looks like a good little knife and a a great EDC!

Towards Asian made knives, I bought a ROMA to see what the fuss is all about. Gotta admit that I like it. It is heavy duty and snaps hard. I did some indoor shots and some outdoor ones with a model friend of mine. She ads a lot of beauty to the images :-)

That's ingenious how you're using those slotted posts on your knives, I love any knife built with screws instead of fixed rivets cuz it makes it easy to remove the blades for shipping to me here in restricted Canada, and of course for your purposes.
Talking autos is a favorite of mine too, especially when the person knows what they're talking about, just like you!
The knife you posted today is unbelievably gorgeous, I want one, I want one, waaaa! lol! ::rotflol::
Is this the logo you referred to?

Yeah those slotted posts are great. If it weren't for them I doubt I would have built any switchblades.

I've used a few of those blades myself (pic below  ). But I bought them from switchbladekits.com when they were only $20. I also used those slotted posts in all of these knives.
Killgar!
I have some updated information regarding Roadsideimports.
I just recently got a Russian Medhah (?) auto that is in pieces and needs a spring from "southwestfinds" which is the store from the link to ebay you provided earlier, and when it arrived I was reading the Customs form that was attached to my package and it says the exporter is "Chad Rueben", who of course is likely "Rueben "Chad" Blades" the guy who worked at RSI and also is/was JB's life partner, so in one way or another the parts they're selling on ebay are the same as JB was selling. From the looks of what is available on ebay those parts are likely leftovers, since sears and rockers and pins don't seem to be available.
Now that's not to say they don't have more parts stored somewhere possibly the ones that you need, so here is the information from the label and perhaps you can contact them and do some business.

southwestfinds
Returns Processing
110 Internationale Blvd.
Glendale Heights IL 60139
United States
866-961-9253

That's an Illinois address and quite possibly where JB is cuz he lived in Illinois previously, but ebay information says the store is located in Washington State and that's likely where Chad is cuz he lived in Washington State previously, or, I could be totally mistaken with all these assumptions, this is simply where the clues lead!

I sent southwestfinds a message asking if it is the Chad Rueben I think it is, but have yet to hear back and might never!

That's very interesting. I'm not surprised that it was someone who had/has a connection to JB, since the items being sold were very similar, and in some cases identical.

Good little bit of detective work MM ::tu:: .

I check the southwestfinds listing now and then, but as it stands now I don't really need any of the old Roadside stuff. If I saw certain items I might buy them, but as far as my switchblade building these days is concerned I already have a source for the parts I need, and I'm pretty well stocked up. But I appreciate the heads up.

Of course if I could go back in time and buy a bunch of stuff from JB, then I could have saved a good amount of money on parts, but that ship sailed, and sank, and I haven't solved the complexities of time travel yet  .

Ha, ha, ha!
My pleasure, KG. ::handshake::
My thinking was, perhaps JB still has sears and rockers and blades since you'd said you wish those parts were still available to you at a reasonable price, but it sounds like you're all set-up already so it's a moot point. It really bugs me to pay an inflated price for something when I could have got it previously at a much reduced price, and it sounds like that's the same for you too. Oh well, what can ya do!

Kimzilla wrote: Tue Oct 03, 2023 9:11 pm HELP Marco!!! I was wondering if you might know what is wrong with two autos that I have. I think they're both AKC Roma knives. They don't deploy properly. They open and get to right before where they should "stick" or lock in place and then fall limp. Not sure if there's anything I can do to fix them myself or if they need actual repair jobs. They were relatively inexpensive at $75 & $135, so I wouldn't want to have to pay too much to fix them. I also hate that I have two bad knives ::teary_eyes::

I'm not a Marco, but I do play one on TV. 🤭 Have you cleaned and oiled the pivot pin where the blade attaches to the frame? Could be dry or have dried grease/oil/milling dirt there. Just a thought. I really like the color, kind of like a bug green.

No, we didn't try oiling anything on it. I was wondering if oiling & cleaning it might be a fix, but the husband is always super busy with work and that type of thing is his realm, not mine. I'll try to get him to do that and see what happens. It also has a scratchy kind of feel on the release button. I'll just ask him to clean and oil the entire darn thang at this point. It's supposedly vintage from the 80s, so it probably does need some TLC. Thanks for your help "fake" Marco ::tu::

I really like the color too, but for me it reminds me of a Granny Apple or an old school car paint job :)
Right or wrong,I rinse mine out with WD/40,blow dry with compressed air then oil with something I'm hesitant to disclose for fear of getting laughed at.,but I can tell you I have been carrying the same pick lock for over 50 years and it's still tight. What ever you do,stay away from any thing harsh like brake cleaners unless you want to ruin those nice green slabs.

There ya go, Kim, both those answers could solve the problem.
That knife isn't a Roma, I don't know what it is but it's a 9" picklock, probably the AKC you mentioned for $135.
I guess you didn't post picture of the Roma. ::shrug::

Re: Some of my autos!

Let's straighten this out, Kim.

The Granny apple green knife is a picklock, confirmed by the bottom of the top bolster being squared off instead of curved so it could swivel and push the lock-tab away from the tang pin to close the blade.
The white pearlex is the Roma, and you're correct that it's a swinguard, but now you're talking apples and oranges cuz being a swinguard is the style of knife, but how the blade is released for closing is a lockback, due to the lever at the but-end that is pressed to lift the lock-tab off of the tang pin to release the locked blade, and has nothing to do with the swinguard. Get it?

Have been repairing clocks since 1968.,got my first and current pick lock in 1974. Just seemed the natural thing to use was clock oil. It has in fact proven itself quite well.

Thanks, but old habits die hard. That being said,I see on here a lot of references being made as to the difficulty of using and/or closing a pick lock stiletto. They are actually very easy to manage and I prefer them over swivel bolsters for a couple reasons.,they are tighter, heavier and generally higher quality in my humble opinion.,plus I prefer carbon steel over stainless which will no doubt stir debate. As for closing,,,you DON'T use your thumb, you use your index finger to unlock the blade.,the thickness of a finger nail is all it takes to trip the lock bump it over and squeeze it closed all with one hand.I don't claim to know more than the next guy (or girl) but this has worked for me since "74". Pray you never are forced to use your knife in self defense.,it will never look the same,or feel or sound the same.,it will take on a completely different persona and will never again be the cool flicker that people show off to each other., you will never sell it,loan it or sit in front of the television in the evening caressing and admiring it. I've acquired many over the years and they're basically all up for grabs but for two.

My apologies then, Kim, ::handshake:: from your 1 picture the bottom of the top bolster appears to be squared, not curved so as to accommodate the swivelling bolster.

BTW, this isn't a contest about who's right the most, so you might want to lighten up on yourself, I don't believe there's a time limit on how quickly we learn something, you know what you know however long it takes.
