Case Box Question

Post by Paladin »

Guys,
In a recently purchased collection I got a dozen or so Case knives in gray colored boxes and I would call them authentic, even though generic because there is no label.
I wonder if these boxes might have come via a dealer who might have bought knives direct from Case but with the boxes 'on the side', so to say?
Anyone have experience on this?
I sure will appreciate any info.

Ray, I did NOT do an extensive search for these.
This is just one, a CURRENT ad on eBay.
I'm almost sure there are more.

Skip,
Thanks for that. Somehow I never thought about finding them on the open market.

I know a couple of dealers who keep those boxes on hand so if they buy a collection that has no boxes they will use one of those when they sell them.

That seems to be the case, er, situation here. First time I encountered such.

I think all of my similar boxes are labeled, but will check when I get home. They look legit from your pictures.

I have bought hundreds of them. I think some dealers buy knives from case to customize the knives and put the knives in fancier boxes, then sell the basic Case boxes.

Steve,
When you buy them like that, do the boxes have labels? If so, do you steam them off or what?

Usually they have labels. I buy blank adhesive labels and just cover them up.

I know one local dealer that buys them with no labels and puts knives in that he has no box for.
