New York Knife???

Post by galvanic1882 »

Ok I need your help on this one, thoughts if it’s legit please. I’ve seen this pattern faked with other names mostly hardware brands. I don’t like the fact that the pull for the secondary blade is on the back. Never seen a NY Jack done like this? Thoughts please, thanks Mike

I don't know if NYK Co. used fancy bolsters and caps but i have seen these on other fake knives stamped with the name of an old and collectible USA brand.

Bone doesn’t look like any NYK bone I’ve seen. No swedges on the blades. The tang stamp is not one I’ve seen. ::td::

Thanks guys, I got the knife in a batch to sell for a friend and needed confirmation it was a fake. Too bad it was sold as an original.

It would be interesting to know what this knife started out as and who made it. The new owner probably thinks he's got a real gem. ::doh::

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

It started out as a bucket of parts and recently made blades that were re-stamped. I have a similar recently made fake knife marked "Maher/&/Grosh". It did not start out as a vintage knife that was altered.

I was thinking more like a Frosty repro that someone tried to turn legit. ::td::

I think Boker did an almost identical knife (to the real NYK) at some point in its history. Not sure where I saw that though, just going by my questionable memory. ::dang:: :D :D

I believe this 'Maher & Grosh' marked knife is the 'brother' of the OP knife.

I bought it on ebay for about $25. I knew it was a fake so my max bid was low.
Whomever is making these knives is a good craftsman. Other than having fake markings it is a fine knife, very good fit & finish, smooth action, no play and sharp blade edges. So for $25 i have a made in USA pocket knife.
