I have a question on Rogers Bone. I was told by a friend that Rogers bone was the jigging in the bone and it was not the color. I thought it was the color. He also told me that there was a knife at the show green rogers bone. Is there such a thing. Can someone show me some pics and explain the difference in rogers bone weather its the jigging or the color. . Thanks guys Bigden

The big boys at the knife show told me this 3 1/8 inch CASE BRADFORD was RODGERS green bone.

this is my queen with rogers bone scales. according to sargents book its spelled rogers.my q76 is one of the more rare queens. not an expert but im sure there are others much more knowledgeable to chime in.

It's due to the jigging pattern. The Queen barlow looks like saw-cut delrin to me. The small Case toothpick could be Rogers bone, but it's pretty pocket worn to tell.

It's the pattern of the jigging , this looks to red to me, the few tested (rogers) I have are tan in color.
The Queen is saw cut not rogers.

jim is right on one aspect,its not rogers but according to sargents the q76 year pattrn #22 pat no is winterbottom bone.no doubt rogers bone is a thing of beauty.

Rogers was a company and they made several patterns of jigged bone...probably sawcut too.

So is this TESTED 6376 1/2 a rogers jigging cuz its "longish", or jus plain jigging???

To me, that's regular Case jigging. Rogers jigging is very irregular, the jigging on your knife is quite regular, all the little jigs are roughly the same size and in nice straight rows.

Queen also used Rogers bone handles on their knives.

Case also used Winterbottom bone on their early knives.

Here is a slab of unused Rogers jigged bone. It is a little dark as it has never been polished. Once the knife is finished the bone handles polish out lighter than this color, and the edges are sanded to conform to the shape of the knife frame, so the edges would be lighter too.

I can believe that, but don't you think that Winterbottom is more associated with Queen than with Case?

Yes, Queen used far more jigged bone from the Winterbottom Company than Case.

here is just what I have thought in my mind. You experts can correct me if I am wrong. It seems that early rogers bone was made to be closer to green bone and was not sold at a premium and the late rogers bone was made to emulate the Case XX red bone that was so popular in the XX era. I have heard stories of opening a half dozen box of some red bone knife and 2 or 3 of them could be rogers bone.

I guess my question is..... Was Rogers bone used just to fill orders of green bone (early rodgers) in the Tested and early XX era and was the late rogers bone used one for one with thr case xx red bone from the XX era?
