Gerber Straightlace

In 1939 Joseph Gerber (advertising agency owner) had custom knife maker David Murphy make 24 sets of carving knife for some of his select customers. Catalog retailer Abercrombie & Fitch saw them and was so impressed with the quality of the knives they wanted to sell them. Thus was born Gerber Legendary Blades.

Gerber Straightlace

Post by QTCut5 »

Fished this interesting Gerber "Straightlace" out of the Bay the other day. I like a pocket clip on my EDC knives and it's kind of unusual to see one on a slipjoint, but I think it was the blade geometry that really attracted me to it. A tad heavy for my personal EDC preference, but other than that, a nice knife...very solid.

Cool Gerber. Have you seen the Gerber Jukebox? It also has a clip. Unique looking knife for sure.

Nice carry!
I thought all folders were slip joints.
Are you saying slip joint as opposed to a locking blade?

Neat looking Gerber, Q. Almost in between lambsfoot and ramsfoot blade.I find the shape very functional for everything from food prep, to opening packages...which is probably 90% of my knife use. ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

Looked them up. Have one similar (CJRB Talla Linerlock ) on my watch list.

Yes...that is what I meant. Perhaps I should have called it a "traditional" folder to distinguish it from a folder that has some kind of locking mechanism. Although it makes perfect sense to me, I've heard that some people don't care for the term "slip joint" (which may make it sound like the blade is loose, i.e., can slip).
