Didja Know?? PC Tips & Tricks

Post by jerryd6818 »

This thread is for sharing tips and tricks for everyday usage on your PC (not Apple products, tablets, notebooks or smart phones. If you have a tip or trick for one of those devices, please start a new thread and label it appropriately.)

Didja know -- that you can open a picture or a link in new tab by clicking on it using the roller wheel on your mouse. Yeah, that roller wheel clicks just like the left and right mouse buttons.
By the way, if you're not using tabs, you're missing out on one of the handiest features Internet Explorer has added in the past 20 years. I'm sure most of you are though. Google Chrome and Firefox has them too.

Didja know -- speaking of the roller wheel on your mouse (handy little devil) you can zoom in on the page you are viewing (or zoom out) by holding down the control button (Ctrl) on your keyboard and rolling the wheel on your mouse forward or backward. When you want to return to the normal view, hold down the control button on your keyboard and tap the "0" (zero) key on the top of your keyboard (not the ten key pad on the right side of your keyboard)

** Ctrl + and Ctrl - will do the same thing, just in case you don't happen to have a wheel on your mouse. Haven't seen a mouse without one in a long time but you never know.

I hate re-typing stuff from one place to another. Type it once, left click and slide cursor over area you want copied, hit Control C, put cursor where you want info pasted, hit Control V. Viola'. ::ds::

Jerryd when you say using tabs are you referring to the menus on the left side of the page or are you referring to mutiple tabs for different websites?

I apologize for not getting back to this right away. No excuse Sir.

You may be using "Tabs" already and don't even realize it. Tabs are simple. Tabs are nothing more than windows within a web browser window (I.E., Google Chrome, FireFox). They allow you to have a couple of AAPK incidents open while you have the Weather Channel open, while you have eBay open all in one "Window" but in "Tabs" within that window.

I can already hear a bunch of you out there going, "Oh, yeah. I knew that."

Yes Jerry. Thanks for the clarification. I use multiple tabs frequently and another tool I have found invaluable is the bookmarks sidebar. Available at the top of your bookmarks menu. Left click on View Bookmarks sidebar and all your bookmarks are available at all times when choosing multiple tabs.

Holey Moley Jerry! Are you sure we don't need some sort of security clearance to view all that information?

Bookmarks on the favorites bar. Another of my most used favorites.

Show the Favorites bar by:
Adding Favorites Bar Annotated.jpg
Rename favorites on the Favorites Bar to shorten the names and get more on the bar or name it something that makes more sense to you by right clicking on the name you want to change and choosing "Rename".
