Pictures post sideways........what to do ?

Post by philco »

I've had several pictures I took with my cell phone that I would have liked to post on the forums but when I post them they come out sideways instead of being properly oriented. I know I'm not the only one who has experienced this. What can be done to overcome this issue ?

Phil if I hold my phone straight up and down the picture comes out sideways. If I hold the phone sideways and take the pic it displays properly. Could that be the problem?

Scott and I were just talking about that and what a coincidence. when Scott called I was working on a post for this very subject .

Is your phone an Apple I-Phone? The research I was doing this morning seemed to indicate they have a habit of doing this.

Are you posting directly from your phone or sending the picture to your computer and posting from there?

What flavor of computing device do you have?
  • Windows PC
  • Mac
  • Notebook
  • I-Pad
  • Kindle
  • etc, etc, etc
This whole issue is dependent on several things. Oh what a PITA this modern technology is. ::dang::

Phil I forgot to mention that the sideways photos only occur if I have the screen rotation feature turned off which I usually do. That thing makes me dizzy flopping back and forth.

Here's how I fixed Scotts sideways picture over in the Outdoors thread.

You should know I'm running Windows 7.

  • I double clicked on the picture to get it as large as possible.
  • Then I right clicked on it and chose "Save picture as..." from the drop down menu.
  • Saved it to my computer.
  • Right clicked on it on my computer.
  • Chose "Rotate Clockwise" from the drop down menu.
  • Reposted it to AAPK.

Jerry I am using and Apple I-phone 5. My computer is a Microsoft Surface Pro. I have no idea what version of Windows it is running. (Company issued equipment) I posted the same picture on facebook that I was trying to post here. It posted with no problem on facebook. I sent the pic from my phone to the computer via email then saved the pic in my files. I've tried rotation of the photo prior to posting but it still shows up 90degrees out of plumb.

And yet for me, it get's it's act together and straightens right out. I just did to this pic what I did to Scott's pic, detailed above.

Phil, did you read Greg's post above (gsmith7158)?

"Phil I forgot to mention that the sideways photos only occur if I have the screen rotation feature turned off which I usually do. That thing makes me dizzy flopping back and forth."

Try that, see what results you get and report back.

Do you know if your Surface Pro is running Windows RT or Windows 8 Pro? (Not that it makes much difference to me. I've never used either one of them.) Just curious. I don't know if File Explorer (Windows Explorer) was included with the Win RT and Win 8 Pro operating systems.
