My first Robeson... 622382 Shuredge Trapper

The first Robeson knives were imported by Millard Robeson from England and Germany exclusively. This continued from 1979 until 1896 when Robeson began manufacturing knives in the United States. Since inception, the company has gone through several reorganizations & eventually ended up as a Queen Cutlery brand.

My first Robeson... 622382 Shuredge Trapper

Post by CheckSix »

My understanding is that these were made in the 1940 - 64 era. Knife needs a light clean up but is in decent shape. Snap is good. This is my first Robeson. Lighting was poor today, so apologies for the less than ideal photos.

Any information or commentary about the knife, is surely welcome!

I believe that you are correct on the age. The bone appears to be Robeson's strawberry bone. The pre-WWII Robesons, in particular, are some of the highest quality pocket knives you will ever find.

Nice old knife! ::tu::

It is a scarce pattern. I haven't seen very many of them.

Given the strawberry bone, you can date that knife 1948 to 1959 or 1960.

I have never seen this pattern with anything other than strawberry bone. I have no recollection of seeing on with strawberry Delrin, but they might have been made with that.

I know for sure, I've never seen one with brown/green bone.

Robeson had used that handle-die shape number before, 382.

It was used on a utilitarian knife that most likely went out of use with the change from horses to automobiles or tractors. They revived the number for that trapper, which I suspect did not exist for Robeson until Emerson Case came to the company.

I actually think it's a more attractive pattern than Case's 54 model trapper.

Thank you Charlie! This is the information I was really interested in finding out. So, it is a lesser seen pattern and it that time range you said above. Very interesting! I'll keep my eyes open for more unusual ones. ::tu::
