SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON

The first Robeson knives were imported by Millard Robeson from England and Germany exclusively. This continued from 1979 until 1896 when Robeson began manufacturing knives in the United States. Since inception, the company has gone through several reorganizations & eventually ended up as a Queen Cutlery brand.

Just bought this one on ebay, the reason--I like old knives, jig bone handle scales, and muskrats. That's all I have to say about that. How old" 1965-77? I think. thanks for looking, ::handshake:: Terry

Picked up this one today. It's about 3 1/4" maybe 3 3/8". Blades are solid with great snap and half-lock.
The tang stamp isn't like any I saw listed, so crossing my fingers it's legit.

In my second edition of Knives Can Talk I believe it dates your knife at 1896-1899.

Nice little bare head jack you have there.

Thank you. What's throwing me off is I thought there should be a "The" before Robeson in that stamp.

I have never seen that stamp and I don't think Tom Kalcevic references it in any of his books, because I don't think the word "THE" was ever on those tangs, so I believe you have uncovered a previously undocumented stamp.

It's possible the blades were marked with a broken stamp die, but there's no way we'll ever know that.

It would help if you posted a good photo of the master blade stamp.

The bone is not common either, but I have seen it.

Thanks for responding Charlie. That news is both exciting and worrisome at the same time!
I spent last night browsing through the Robeson forum looking for any similar bone without success.
I was concerned that it may have been rehandled, but the pins look original (to my untrained eye).
Most of the pins stick out a bit. Do bone handles ever shrink over time?
Here's an attempt at better photos. Please let me know if any others will help.
