Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Nice old Robeson jack, JKB.
Does it have a pattern number?
Are the handles ebony or composition?
Pretty sure the word in the master blade stamp is, “ShurEdge”, though.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
New one to me. Actually the 1st camp/utility/scout style knife I've bought. I have a couple but they were gifts from way back. When I bought it I operated under assumption that it was delrin, now that I have in hand I am thinking that it's a bone knife (it was listed as bone but I don't always believe). I'm not real good at being 100% certain. I did a couple "tests" that lead me to this conclusion. Regardless, in person it's a dark red beauty (pics make it look a bit more red). All blades are tight with good snap. The punch is an absolute nail breaker to open. I haven't done my obligatory search here on AAPK to see what I can learn about maybe lessening that some. I had purchased it with intent of being a "shop" knife but that duty here can be a bit brutal. Now feeling like it may have to reside here in the house in a more environmentally friendly role. My assumptions are that knife was made between 1940-1964 in Perry. Still not 100% on bone vs delrin but the red hot needle says "bone". The pic of the tang stamp looks like it may have been struck twice (once lightly) as there is a bit of a duplicate look to it (could be camera?). Tough to confirm with naked eye and loupe because my eyesight isn't that keen but I believe I can see a bit of it. Here a couple pics.....

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Agree with above. Definitely genuine Robeson Strawberry Bone and circa 1948 to 1959.
I am actually unsure if I have ever seen a strawberry Delrin example of that 214 pattern that had the proprietary Robeson stubby screw driver and can-opener/cap-lifter blades. Could be wrong on that, of course. I often am.
Nice old knife you got there.

Thanks to all for comments! Always appreciate experts chiming in. I spent a little time oiling the joints and opening and closing blades/tools. I think part of it's "nail breaker" issue had to do with no tlc in a while. It has improved. I'm fond of this one.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
I don't as a rule follow or buy Robeson knives, but I saw this one in Mark's store (SSk) and couldn't resist! It's an 8 1/4" oal slip-joint with a SS spear-point blade with a n/n, NS bolsters and shield, brass liners and pins, and strawberry red jigged synthetic covers. About 5 oz.'s with a perfect fit and finish. If I had a complaint about my new knife it would be the nearly impossible pull with at least a rating of 10, and it's dangerously strong detent with the same rating, but other than that it's great!

Nice score. I was just noticing the long bolster and wondered if that would qualify as a Barlow? Interesting that you say it's a 10 pull, impossible. I know what you mean but I really like the strong pull, makes it feel like it will never close accidentally on you and that being without a lock to me is saying something. I love those slip joints you can barely get closed. Just feels good to me. Congrats again.Madmarco wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 11:36 pm I don't as a rule follow or buy Robeson knives, but I saw this one in Mark's store (SSk) and couldn't resist! Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Thanks buddy! I thought of the pattern as more of a trapper than Barlow, but you might be onto something there. I know as much about "pulls" as I do about rocket science, hence my 10 posting, all I know is it takes all I have to pull the blade out, and I'm very conscious of it's detent when I'm closing it, but like you I really don't mind it and for the same reasons, it makes the knife feel solid both opening and closing! Your reasoning is quite fitting bud, cuz I just got an all Damascus folder that is suppose to be a slip-joint, but it doesn't lock open and is quite loose on the opening/closing with no half-stop, and it would take very little to press down on the unlocked blade and close it on my fingers! This sure won't happen with the Robeson!Ivoryman wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 6:52 amNice score. I was just noticing the long bolster and wondered if that would qualify as a Barlow?
