Fran is right.
The hook and punch should be to the left, with the hook in front. The spear and driver should be to the right, but the driver should be in front.

Re: Robeson Knife
Fran,
It was carbon, but obviously from a much newer vintage than the original tang steel.
It could have even been from a Chinese knife
I owned the knife for less than a day before it was sent back to the seller.
Too bad someone ruined a rare old knife

Re: Robeson Knife
MB sent me a sweet little green onyx celluloid handled Robeson serpentine pen as the prize for his little contest.
I actually tried to be humble and all, and decline the prize as I felt I had an unfair advantage.
Then, he told me the prize was a Robeson knife. Well, I ain't that humble.
Thanks,MB.

Re: Robeson Knife
John Goins is the only writer I have that has anything on Beaver Cut Co.
Here is a quote of what little he has on it:
"BEAVER CUTLERY CO. USA g 1920-1930"
I am not sure what the 'g' stands for.

Re: Robeson Knife
Goins explains the "g" in the front of the book. I think it's in the preface.
I have forgotten the exact meaning, but it's something like "general" or "guesstimate" or some such that indicates the dates are not firm and/or are not backed up by any documentation.

Re: Robeson Knife
Here is an interesting old Robeson knife, at least to me.
I have seen hundreds of this type knife with the one piece handle folded over. I don`t recall seeing a Robeson among them.
It hides the backspring and makes for a nice little knife in your pocket.
The stamp appears to be pre 1940. It has plenty of wear on the blades, but the advertising is interesting.
Maybe Charlie can fill us in on the details on this one.

Re: Robeson Knife
I have seen Robeson knives with that type construction.
I have also seen a Terrier marked knife like that, without the advertising. That knife would date 1910 - 1916, so I suspect your knife dates well before 1940.
Below is a very nice old The Robeson Cutlery Co. & Rochester Stamping Co advertiser that is made like the knife above. I have one of these, but not nearly so nice as the one in the photos. That knife sold on Ebay a couple of years ago. I would have liked to have owned the knife, but I was outbid.

Re: Robeson Knife
Wow, that is a nice specimen!
$230 is good money for this type knife, they usually sell for a lot less, even in mint condition.
I suspect the Robeson advertising increased it`s value over say one with the advertising my knife has.

Re: Robeson Knife
I suspect the upper price range was generated by the collectors of Rochester Stamping and Royal Rochester wares. They have run the price way up on cross-over items like this before.
There was a framed B/W photo of one of the two Rochester Stamping locations that sold on Ebay last year. All the Robeson Cutlery / Rochester Stamping salesmen were in front of the building. Had their names and areas of responsibilty listed on the back. The building's address was 12 Saratoga Avenue, Rochester, N.Y.
There was a relatively small sign on the front portch that said, "ROBESON CUTLERY CO. SECOND FLOOR".
It was bought by a ceramics wares collector for $375.00.

Re: Robeson Knife
I am sorry about that.......shop Christmas party.
Too many Long Island Tea's and edUkated Teevee's do not mix. Plus my sugar level went off the scale this morning/afternoon.
IIRC, I am just glad I did not bid on the thing.
I am going to find out in about 5 minutes.
