Japan Vs. China?

Kershaw began its foray into the knife business sometime during 1974. The company was originally based in Portland Oregon, but most early knives were manufactured in Japan. The first US manufacturing plant was opened in 1997 & the company currently offers knives made in the U.S., Japan, & China. Pete Kershaw (an ex Gerber salesman) started the business.

Japan Vs. China?

Post by cody6268 »

I've seen a place online that has several nice looking older used Japanese Kershaws for about $10. The descriptions, and pricing (which works out great for me!) is based on their Chinese counterparts one will find on the shelf today,

What steel did the older Japanese Kershaws use compared to that CrMoV stuff used in China? How much better is the quality? I presume much better. Of course, the Chinese Kershaws aren't bad either--I love my Filter, despite it being two things I hate--assisted opening, and Chinese made.
