Kershaw doesn't have a flipper that I know of.
If they're selling them.....they're legal.
And who knows knife laws anyhow .......or better.....who cares!

I have a Skyline and only like two things about it.
1.) It's a Kershaw
2.) It's orange

I like the way the blade stays sharp in spite of heavy use, cardboard, leather, wood, etc.
I have EDCed it for a month or more and have not sharpened it yet, only stropped it a couple times.
The edge dynamics are good and it stays "Kershaw sharp!"
It flips open very easily with one hand and closed just as easily with one hand. It is lighter than other flippers I have and it does not have assisted opening, nor does it have serrations. All things I appreciate in a one handed opening EDC.

When I say it's Kershaw, that implies several things. It's well built of quality materials, sturdy and scary sharp from the factory. I guess I should have said the only thing I don't like about it is, it's a flipper and not Speedsafe®. We can agree to disagree on that point.

No problem Jerry. To each his own.jerryd6818 wrote:When I say it's Kershaw, that implies several things. It's well built of quality materials, sturdy and scary sharp from the factory. As cool as switchblades and A/O knives are, I am just not a big fan, and I have no reason why, they have very limited appeal to me!
The only A/O I ever EDC is a Leek Damascus, and that is because I love the blade shape and steel.
I prefer opening a knife with a flipper or secondly a thumb hole like a Spyderco (though not a big Spyderco fan) and my third choice is a thumb stud.
Don't ask me to explain, that is just what feels comfortable to me.
Maybe it is a control issue.

The important thing to understand is that Kershaw's flippers aren't switchblades. They can in no way be considered switchblades. They don't have buttons or switches. The flipper is part of the actual blade. What MIGHT get you into trouble, is blade length. Check your locality's rules about blade length. You should be able to find out from a quick Google search. Make sure your blade's length doesn't surpass the legal limit.
Re: Are Kershaw flipper open knives legal in Pennsylvania ?
Hello I am too from Pa. As far as I can tell from researching Pa rules for knife carry. Stay away from switch blades and any form of mechanical assisted knives plus double edged dagger. As I believe them all to be outlawed by state code. Flippers unassisted by spring are fine as far as I can still tell. I personal carry a Kershaw Skyline a lot and have run into no trouble over it.
Re: Are Kershaw flipper open knives legal in Pennsylvania ?
The Kershaw Nura is on sale at Knife Center right now. It has no mechanical assist. But it is a flipper, and it opens as smooth as butter on the ball bearing. It comes in 3" or 3.5" length. It can be yours for about $20. Again, check the blade length laws in your locality.
Re: Are Kershaw flipper open knives legal in Pennsylvania ?
kniferights has an android and ios app called LegalBlade. It has lots of state and local knife laws you can reference along with other information if you get stopped or arrested. The interface is a little clunky but it does have a lot of good information. The App is $1.99 but it does go to a good cause.
Re: Are Kershaw flipper open knives legal in Pennsylvania ?
I use this site for free info on Pa laws. It's part of the site Knifeup.com and has some good info on all 50 state laws on knife possession and carry. http://www.knifeup.com/pennsylvania-knife-laws/
It's a free site with some interesting things on knives in general too.
