How to sharpen my leek ?

Kershaw began its foray into the knife business sometime during 1974. The company was originally based in Portland Oregon, but most early knives were manufactured in Japan. The first US manufacturing plant was opened in 1997 & the company currently offers knives made in the U.S., Japan, & China. Pete Kershaw (an ex Gerber salesman) started the business.

Welcome to AAPK. Glad to have you aboard.

Can't tell you about the Ultra-Tek. Didn't even know it existed until right now.

I'm not real good at sharpening. I have a Lansky that works well on most pocket knives but for my Shun kitchen knives and Kershaw's, I just box 'em up and send them to Kershaw. They have a lifetime FREE sharpening service for all their knives and I could never get one as sharp as they do.

There's a form to fill out and print to send with the knife. Get it here -- http://kershaw.kaiusaltd.com/warranty/form

If you're starting out with a decent edge, ceramic sticks work very well.

I used my Lansky diamond set for my Leek. You just have to be careful
to not round off the point. A few swipes on a canvas strop I made keeps it in fightin' shape !

I would be surprised if they did (Probably claim customer abuse.) but they will replace the blade for $10 if they do not deem it a warranty repair. Since you dislike the knife, you could then sell it and at least get some of your money back.

Get the return/repair form here: http://kershaw.kaiusaltd.com/pdfs/Warra ... haw_ZT.pdf

I'm sorry to hear about your sharpening woes. I also have a leek, the rainbow one. You're absolutely right about the thin blade. The Spyderco Sharpmaker seems like nearly the perfect tool for maintaining the leek. I wouldn't try to sharpen my leek with a flat stone.

As always, don't over-sharpen the blade. This is especially true for thin blades.

Kershaw offers free sharpening on all their knives. Just go to their website and look for the warrenty service page.
