Benchmade dual blade OTF prototype

Post by schmoozer »

Looking at one for sale, kind of like the old Schrade 2-blade penknives, but much much more.
Has anyone seen one before, and a rough price estimate?

Thanks in advance.

I've never seen a dual blade OTF knife but there was a guy in Chicago many years ago(1970's)that used to send out a list of knives for sale and in one list had one advertised.Unfortunately there were no pictures. It sold very rapidly. I would like to see a photo of one. They must be pretty thick to house the mechanisms. There were some pictures on Blade Forums of several custom 2 blade Italian style folders that were nice and likely very expensive.

That is not made by Benchmade. It's made in China and has a fake Benchmade logo.

I sure hope you didn't buy it for $1000 because it's not worth $40.

They misspelled "dual". (This is an indication of poor English skills and lack of veracity). I wouldn't trust the individual at all.

I have talked with the seller, a local who is not trying to shaft anyone.
If it were a Chinese knockoff, wouldn’t there be 1000’s of them out there?
I may stop by tomorrow to see it in person.
All comments appreciated. As for typos in the listing, my predictive spelling also suks.

This is made in China. Or a least the parts are. It may have been customized into a two-blade version in the US or somewhere else, but it is made from parts from these knives:

The blades are from #2 and #4, and the handles are from #5 and #6. They are junk and it's likely that whoever modified it was using spare parts from broken knives. Apologies if posting the link isn't allowed.

BTW, you can easily post the pics on an official Benchmade forum and get an expert to tell you.

Sometimes sellers don't realize what they're selling, but the vast majority of the time, the seller knows what he's selling and really is trying to shaft the buyer. I would bet this is one of those times. He's a seller (i.e. a salesman) after all.

Search "Helytec", you'll find those exact blades. Company in Texas assembling them in various names. This one out of Fla.
