Old UNION stamp transition knife

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

Old UNION stamp transition knife

Post by chorizotaco »

Hi folks

I have owned a couple of CASE transition knives in my collection. The companies wanted to use everything up prior to moving into the next year. For example I’ve had a small stockman with one blade 8dots and one blade ten dots, for example. I’m pretty sure Union Cutlery did the same.
Here is my latest that has the beautiful brown UNION bone along with a UNION shield, main blade has the North American UNION stamp, and the pen blade has the UCCO stamp. So fellow Dog lovers what do you think? Always open for discussion.

Nothing transitional about this one Dan. The NA stamp is never seen on secondary blades, always the UCCO which was used right through the KAA-BAR mark until the very late 30s when they dropped stamping the secondary blade. Sweet little knife!! I think I may have the same model in pearl.

Gene she is 3" long closed. Question, since this has UCCO on the pen blade then this was built AFTER the move to Olean right?

I would say you are correct Dan. (It does say Olean, NY under the UCCO) I do have a sweet jigged bone razor with the NA stamp but it says Tidioute on it.

Here's my pearl one and a pearl peanut. Note the peanut has the UCCO in an arch. Don't know if one is older than the other though.

Thanks Dan!! I've had the peanut for 25-30 years, got the one like yours two years ago. I had missed it at a knife show where the owner's table was right across from mine but he wasn't around when I saw it. Later a friend bought it and later sold it on ebay. The guy who bought it on ebay was also a member of our club and put it up for sale six months after buying it. I bought it from him at another show, but paid twice what it sold for when I first saw it. I hate it when that happens!!

Dan and Gene those are some gems there.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
