Interesting Fish Knife

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

Interesting Fish Knife

Post by JohnR »

Picked up this KA-BAR fish knife, came in a fitted leather case and has a blade etch for M.S. Young and Company which was a hardware store in Allentown PA, they were in business from mid 1800's to 1964.
If I'm reading tang stamp right knife dates 1930 to 1950. Not sure what the handle material is, it's greenish black, may be synthetic or may be bone.

I agree that is a very nice knife. Looks either never used or very lightly used. I like fish knives: I have never seen one of those. Looks like there might be just a bit of shrinkage on the handle, so I am guessing it is synthetic. We need a close up photo to spot the Haversian canals if it is bone.

Very nice lightly used example!! No need to look for canals, KA-BAR never made this model in bone, only yellow celluloid or rough black as is this one. Your dates are as good as any, maybe a little after 1930 and before 1950, could be pre-war.

I don't care for this pattern, but this is a really cool knife. Especially with the leather case ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks for the information Gunsil, was pretty sure it was synthetic but the green undertones threw me off.

Thank you all for the nice comments ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::
