1977 dogs head

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

LOL!!! That Ka Bar is Haunting me.
I'm picking one up this weekend, and they are now everywhere I turn. This is the third one in as many days, and I never saw one until a week ago.

If you tell me you got it for six bucks, and two dead chickens i'll just die. ::facepalm::
Edit: don't even say... PLEASE!

Thanks David I really like it. Ken I don’t think they are that plentiful but I am not sure. I can’t wait to see yours when you pick it up my friend.

That is exactly what I mean. I NEVER saw one.
Now they are growing on trees... It's a great looking knife. You can't help but to love them, and that dog head is just sooo unique.

I'll post it here for sure! ::tu::

These are fairly common knives, 1977 and 1978. They were made largely for collectors so there are many still around in original boxes. Some did get carried and used, but many mint ones are out there. There is one on the bay right now, and I think at least twelve a year show up there. They are indeed beautiful knives, but not quite as nice as the originals they mimic. The dog head on these is not the same as the one on the originals if one looks closely. Not sure if these knives were actually made by Queen as most or all of the KA-BAR Collector's Club knives were.

In the the July 2016 Knife Magazine Bruce Voyles had a list of production numbers for Kabar club knives.
In 1977 they two piece sets of single blade and double blade stag hunters. 1100 were made.
In 1978 they sold Stag hunters tang stamped X11/77 and X11/78. 1200 each were made.
Here's the one I have.

Those are beautiful hunters you fella have! ::tu:: Going to have to keep an eye out for. Need to save some cash first. ::nod:: I dont have any examples of the older dog head shields but I do have 2 dog head barlows from 1998 and a newer copper smith barlow with a dog head shield.

Great and beautiful Knives everyone. I really like this Kabar. I have several Kabar 1184s and I believe one of the has a loose pin in the simulated stag handles soooooo I may decide to take those off and replace them with real stag. If I do I will post it all the whole process right here. Thank you to everyone who commented, Ed. ::tu::
