My paternal grandfather was a police officer in the Mount Vernon, New York, Police Department (Westchester County) from approximately 1910-1940. This "blackjack" was his and it filtered down to me and I've had it since 1982. The strap is broken, the leather is worn and cracked, but it will still do what it was designed to do. I also have his two "billy clubs." As far as "saps" are concerned, if you mean the leather gloves that have sand or "powdered lead" in the knuckles of the gloves, then yes, I have a pair of those also. They are "modern" and were given to me by a friend of mine, who was in a law enforcement agency. The "blackjack" is pictured. :D

The 3 knucks you have, I bought one at a farm auction around 1974, and had it in my show case at my bicycle shop. A policeman seen it and said I thought I seen a pair of knucks. I told him where I bought it and it wasn't for sale. Still have it. Around four years ago a sap was in an auction. Auctioneer said he wasn't sure about selling and I believe he auctioned a pack of matches. I was high bidder against one man. around $28. And I have no idea why I bought it. Wife wasn't impressed either. I'm not sure about age of it a legally shipping it by USPS of UPS, if they happened to inspect the package? By weight i'm pretty sure it has lead or buck shop in it. Age?
