NEW TO BULLDOG
I understand there are several generations of BDs with the oldest being most desireable. And that exhausts my knowledge. If anyone can help with identifying my single BD I'd be grateful. It is a large 5" closed Whitler. The scales are buffalo horn; the master blade has the etching "Celebrated Anglo Saxon Knife." The tang reads BULLDOG BRAND/HAMMER FORGED/SOLINGEN GERMANY. The obverse tang shows the double BD heads and the words Hand Made; this appears on the other two blades as well. Interested when made (generation?), desirability/possible value, any info on the etching about Anglo Saxon etc. Thanks in advance.

Re: NEW TO BULLDOG
Your whittler is a 5th generation bulldog. Bulldog began the double dog head stamp in 2000 and discontinued it in 2004 when they went back to the fighting dogs stamp. They were also made in the 4th generation with the standing dog stamp.
Value is subjective. A range would be 75 to 165 dollars which I know is wide. They were very nice knives . I have handled several and have sold them in that range. According to Jim Parker 60 were made in each handle material.
Hope this helps.

olderdogs1: Thank you very much. Your information clarifies the BD picture for me. I find the F&F to be quite good. Regret their move to China.

I haven't heard they moved to China. The last Bulldog's I knew were USA made and that had been several years ago.

On ebay there are Hand Made In China BDs. It may be the blades are shipped to China from Germany for assembly. And perhaps still others remain manufactured in Germany or the U.S.

Sweet knife Quick Steel,
Bulldog Cutlery. Bulldog brand knives have been one of the favorite work and collectible knives for the last 25 years. Charlie Dorton, a perfectionist, first commissioned the Friedrich Olbertz factory in Solingen to produce Bulldog knives in 1978; and they were made in the same factory until a few years ago.
Most collectors seek the 1st Edition knives made.
Thanks for sharing.
