Latest Canal Street Additions

Former Schrade President Walley Gardner and principal Joe Hufnagel joined with nine master cutlers to form a group of US craftsmen with over 300 years of combined knife making experience to create Canal Street Cutlery. It was first located in upstate New York where a long and rich tradition of quality knife making dates back to the 19th century. Unfortunately, the company closed its doors in 2015, but not before making some great knives. The brand was resurrected in 2018 as Canal Street Cutlery Co-Op & focused on making very small batches of high quality traditional knives. As a Co-Op, it was owned by the knife makers who worked there. Unfortunately, the business model couldn't hold up & the entity again ceased production.

There's one of those currently being offer on eBay for $199 + $6.50 S&H
after doing a little research I found out they originally went for $88 with S&H included back in 2015.

Scored the AAPK Club knife from 2009. Love the ebony handles and no brass construction. What a beauty.
I forgot to post my Union Cutlery razor trapper I scored a month ago or so. Love that blue rope jigged bone.

I wasn’t a member then either, but this is the one I have admired the most of all of them.

Mark, do you know the story about the shields on those 2009 AAPK knives ?

The AAPK shield on that run of knives came from left over Schrade shields that were used in the Tradesman series. On the back side of the shield you will find an engraving saying "Farmer" or "Miner" or some other trade. (I've forgotten what all of them were.) When the AAPK knives were first released, a few of the shields popped off and that was when it was discovered they were recycled. For me, at least, it just added to the history and the link between Schrade and Canal Street.

That is interesting Phil. Glad to know this. Someday a hundred years from now, someone will have one of these and shield will fall off and they won’t have a clue why it is stamped that way. I need to add that to my notes on this one. I very much appreciate that information, thank you.
