Picked this one up today at one of my favorite antique shops in Blissfield Michigan. I am not usually on the lookout for straight razors as I have enough to keep me busy for several lifetines, but I bought this one for several reasons:
#1 I never heard of the company before(Jackson Knife & Shear Co. Fremont Ohio).
#2 The celluloid handle is unusual an shows no evidence of out-gassing.
#3 The blade seems fairly full and not overly sharpened.
#4 It is in the original box that is in decent shape.
#5 The price was good:ten bucks.
Another company I have never heard of..........

Hi Ray, Goins has more info. He states Jackson knife and shear formed in 1893. In 1907 the company was reorganized as Jackson Shear and Razor Co, and in 1908 changed to Jackson Shear Co. Jackson took over the Sprague Cutlery Co of Buchanan, MI and moved all the equipment to Fremont.

Thank you Gene for the additional info! The box is stamped,"The Jackson Knife and Shear Co." so I guess that would date it to pre-1907.The top of the box shows the logo,"Jackson with Fremont Ohio lettered inside the tail of the letter N and the words, "trade" and "mark" on either side of the logo. I'm in the process of doing some repair work on the box;the top was broken out by the tang of the blade(typical)so I re-glued it using some Gorilla Glue.Gunsil wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 11:29 pm Hi Ray, Goins has more info. Nice looking razor Ray. Any knife or razor I've seen with the Jackson stamp were top shelf.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
