All About Pocket Knives

hey yall,

i was wondering if i could get some help with a couple of roosters i own. they are 2 of my favorite patterns with any knives not just roosters but this congress is by far the best looking rooster ive ever owned! any info is appreciated like always. but i need money for something that i wast expecting so im thinkn about selling these 2 and would like help dating along with value if possible? i like FR’s just dont know alot about em. first one is a congress with red stag scales, the second is a moose pattern with either pearl or imitation pearl handles? if the pics arent good first try ill post more and thanks again joe

Both are "Frank Buster Cutlery Co." which is the earliest tang marking, 1977-82. I have not collected F'nR for years but my guess on value is about $70-$80 range per knife.

For what it's worth, from Jim Parker's 1994 price guide. I think the stag Congress would be item I. -

You can use the book for relative values but not for actual values. Parker wrote the book to promote F'nR knives so dollar amounts given are rather optimistic. And interest in various brands changes over time and this affects value. When i collected F'nR over 10 years ago the interest was fairly strong. Every F'nR knife listed on ebay got quite a few bidders. I don't know if interest in this brand is still as strong.

well i hope so and thanks for the help if you dont mind can you look up the moose pattern i have with tue same tang stamp and Texas Jack blade etching? i also would like to know if its pearl or celluloid im not good with figuring that one out? again thanks for the help guys!

The pictures posted by 1967rr show the answer. They call the handle "Crystal White Satin" so it is not pearl. It is a synthetic, probably celluloid. F'nR did not begin using acrylic for handles until into mid 1990's ?. Celluloid is not stable. At some point it will break down and can corrode right through the metal parts. Acrylic is stable. Never causes any problems.
