Prayer Request For My Mom

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

UPDATE - 7/1/19

I want you guys to know how much I appreciate your interest in and prayers for my family. We never know exactly how much we rely on the Lord and the prayers of other people until after things are over and we look back in retrospect at what has happened.

This last weekend was just such an occasion. My oldest daughter was getting married, and my parents were celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. Both of them are in fragile health being nearly 90 years old. I know several of you guys have been praying about one or both of these events. I really appreciate that you covered it with your prayers, because as things happened last weekend I was not able to attend either the wedding or the anniversary celebration.

Late Friday morning I begin to feel ill. Friday afternoon I went to the hospital and they finally admitted me Friday night. Saturday morning they did surgery. I have had a series of surgeries over the years on my colon that has left scar tissue on the small intestine. From time to time the scar tissue can cause blockages of my intestine, and I thought that’s what it happened this time. But it turned out this time the blockage was caused by a hernia in the small intestine that had attached itself to some scar tissue and was causing the blockage. The doctor said the hernia had been incarcerated right up to the maximum amount of time without causing strangulation. He told me I had gotten in to the hospital at the right time. Much longer and it would have been more difficult to repair, because the intestine would have started to die.

I really appreciate your prayers and because of them; the wedding went well, the anniversary celebration went well and my surgery went well. I believe the prayers of the saints on AAPK and many others around the country are what made things go so smoothly!

I’m home now, and will be about a six week to two month recovery, according to my surgeon. I’m limited to lifting no more than 15 pounds, but that still allows me to putter around in the shop and maybe fix a pocket knife or two.

Thanks again for your prayers! ::handshake::

Dale I'm glad your surgery went well and that you were able to return home so quickly. I do hate that you were not able to attend the wedding or the celebration for your parents. Please follow doctors orders and don't do any heavy lifting. I'll be praying for quick healing and no pain for you.

That's too bad that you missed the events, but I am so happy to hear that you got things fixed and are on the road to recovery. Don't overdo it in the shop, my friend!

A relief to learn of your successful operation. A neighbor had a very similar situation; his appendix was slowly being strangled and he had felt miserable for months. Now its like he is ten years younger. The Lord's concern for our physical safety is such a great blessing. Too often ignored or unaware of by countless millions of people. He tempers the wind to us shorn lambs.

Goodness Dale, glad to hear the surgery went well! A few days without the phone and internet and I'm just now catching up on the forum. Being without those luxuries reminded me of your thoughtfulness last year during Hurricane Michael, you ordered the 2018 AAPK knife for me. Thanks again for that.
Your quick recovery will be our prayer for you.

Well, I thought I better update you folks, it's been a while as I am still in recovery mode from the hernia surgery. I see the doctor again on Friday. I like to keep you folks updated because I know it is great to see how God is answering the prayers you prayed for other people.

Alyson and I went down to visit mom and dad on Father's Day.
Mom and dad are still having their ups and downs, but that is the way life is. I want to share a picture with you of me with my mom and dad. Alyson was taking the pictures and doing something to make us smile and really got everybody laughing.
I love this picture because it is so typical of my mom and dad. In spite of all their health problems they are happy! You can really see the joy of the Lord radiating from their faces. Neither of them had their dentures in but they could still laugh. This type of laughter and joy was typical in our home when I grow up. And I think mom and dad will continue to laugh and have fun until they slip "the surly bonds of Earth" and grasp the hand of Jesus.

Thank you for your continued prayers for mom and dad's health they are definitely working! God bless you all.

Thanks guys.
The more I am able to spend time with Mom and Dad as they approach the end of this life, the more I see the existential nature of their faith. It is not belief in a system, concept or a set rules but in the person of Jesus! He is the difference in their lives.

Thank you Glenn that's what I intend to do.
I remember you had a good picture of you and your dad that you posted shortly after he passed. I wanted to get good memory photos of my folks too, that showcased their character.

Praying for your family. Seeing the picture with their laughter really blessed me!
Our Father does not spare us pain because we live in His Son, instead he allows us to suffer so that the world might look at us and say, "So THAT is how a Christian handles life. I want what they have!"
May God continue to bless you and your family.
Jesus is life.
Everything else is just a hobby.
