could use a few prayers

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Thanks guys, it means a lot. He's resting comfortably, but it's just a matter of time. He's still fighting though.

I'm not going to be overly optimistic, but my dad's kidney has started working again, and seems to be doing it's job. However, there is a lot to be worried about still. If he can't take in fluids on his own, he will continue to decline. And if he recovers, he will still have to be treated for what we think caused all the damage, called wegeners granulamotosis. This almost killed him back in the 80's, and he tested positive for it. I'm not sure if he is strong enough to get through the treatment, though.

I'm grateful for all the prayers and thoughts, they do seem to be working.

We have taken him off of the antibiotics. His breathing has become tougher due to water surrounding his lungs.

Not sure how much more time he has. We are just making him comfortable now.

Thank you for your prayers and thoughts. They are comforting to our family.

Glenn, when you first posted this about your father, I went to my knife roll and got out the little Eye Brand whittler that my daddy gave me years ago and thatbyou rehandled for me. I've carried and/or left it here on my man table in the living room ever sense to remind me to pray for your daddy and for you.

Hang in there.

I did the same thing Colonel - Glenn recently returned 3 knives that were in his shop for some time and the Remington Scout has been in my pocket since the news of his dad surfaced. At times we all need reminders that life is precious.

Thanks guys. I am proud of all the knives I work on, but the ones I do related to family or that are special to people really mean a lot to me also. They are reminders of memories, and can bring them up when we sometimes forget them.

We are waiting for a room to open up at a local hospice we looked at yesterday. The hospital is basically kicking my dad out because he is no longer receiving treatment. I understand the reasons behind it. The hospice is really nice, quiet and spacious. They are not cheap, but he will be comfortable.

Thanks guys. We got him settled into his hospice room. It is large, with plenty of comfy chairs. Certainly more comfortable than the hospital room.

No change in my dad's situation, but I was part of a really nice ceremony today. The local hospice community has been working with the VA for the last few years on a program to honor veterans in hospices. They come in and have a ceremony with a pin and a certificate to recognize the patient for their military service. As a USAF veteran, like him, they asked me to speak and present the pin to my father. My 2 sisters are Army veterans, and my brother and brother-in-law are also USAF veterans. One of the nurses was a Navy veteran also, so she joined us also.

It was a huge honor for me to do it, I managed to hold it together till the end.

Hey guys, my dad passed last night. He was unresponsive all day, then went peacefully in his sleep, Don't think he felt a thing. We should all be so lucky.

Thanks so much for all the prayers and thoughts, they have helped us through this difficult time.

Aww Glenn - this breaks my heart but as Colonel said it is a blessing that he was called home peacefully. Today I will tote the black Camillus 72 that you reworked for me so I can keep you and your entire family in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed my friend.
