Prayer request for my FIL

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Prayer request for my FIL

Post by glennbad »

I'm usually a pretty private guy when it comes to my family, but I would like to reach out and request a little prayer help from anyone who would care to.

My father in law Al is a really nice guy. He is full of life, always willing to help, and at 82, could outwork men half his age. These recent years have caught up with him however, and he has started to slow down and have the issues that people of his age tend to. He is a snowbird, and against all of our concerns for his health, was determined to get down to his place in Florida. He left in November, and ended up in the hospital soon after he got down there. A lot of swelling in his arms and legs, and they didn't know what to do about it. He kind of beat that, but ended up back in the hospital shortly before Christmas. He ended up with a couple stents, and we thought he was on his way.

He was determined to get out of the hospital by Christmas, and the hospital obliged him. Despite his weakened state, he was determined to attend the Christmas dinner at the park where he lives. He ended up falling while trying to climb some stairs. People got him back to his place, and he was in so much pain he laid in a bed for days, unable to sit up or do anything for himself. I fear he was too stubborn to admit anything was wrong.

Somehow a nurse was finally brought in and they did an xray. They found that he had broken bones in his hip in a couple places. They then brought him back to the hospital, where he is now waiting for surgery. My wife has been going through a turmoil of emotions, blaming herself for not being able to keep him up in NH, and for not being down there while all this was going on. Today we got her and her sister on a plane to go down there to be with their father.

I feel so bad for my wife and her sister. They lost their mother at 66 years old suddenly a number of years back, and their father is all they have left. If you could say a prayer for Sandy, Susan, and their father Al, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Glenn

Glenn,
Remind your wife and her sister that Dad was doing what he wanted, even if they didn't approve.

Praying the Lord will bless your FIL with a full recovery and give all involved peace about what has happened.

My FIL is 92 and it would destroy him if he couldn't continue with his life as he enjoys it. All his children and their spouses know what would be best for him, but have learned to accept him for the old Florida Cracker cowboy he is and just to be ready if he needs something when he gets in a bind.

I am told that the surgery went well. They are watching him, as his BP is low, but so far so good.

Glenn, praying for AL and his daughters and for you, stranded in NH by whatever, when I know you'd prefer to be with them.

He's got heart problems. Good that he got the stents before he needed the hip surgery.

Rehab will be difficult. Ya'll will have to be patient and supportive.

Crusty old guy. God Bless Him.

Thanks guys. I talked to him a little while ago. He sounded so emotional to have his daughters there, and thanked me for letting them go down there, LOL. Like I would have had a say anyway. It sounded to me like that was a big boost to his emotional state.

I appreciate your prayers and thoughts, I feel they helped. Please continue to keep them in your prayers as he continues to get better.

I guess my FIL is weak, sleeps a lot, and has been throwing up and not wanting to eat. I sure hope he turns things around, he was pretty skin and bones before all this...

Slowly but surely, it looks like he is getting better. They just moved him into a regular room. Hopefully he will be released in the next few days and we can get him into a rehab.

Thanks again for your prayers, everyone. My father in law is slowly making progress. He was released to a rehab yesterday, and now that he is settled in there, the girls will be heading back this way tonight.

My boy and I need to get the house ship-shape before she gets home.
