Back Surgery

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Back Surgery

Post by dlr110 »

On Monday morning 09/30/2019 my youngest son, Matthew, will be having back surgery. This is a result of an 18 wheeler hitting his patrol car from behind at 60 mph 2 1/2 years ago. It's a long story as to why it has taken this long, so I won't take up your time with that. Because of his injuries he can no longer serve as a police officer, so we don't know what is in his future. I'm asking for prayer for him and the hospital staff and that this surgery will give him the relief from the pain he desperately needs. I know there is a reason that my son has had to go down this path, but I'm asking God for mercy and healing, so that my son can walk again without a cane and without constant pain in his back and legs. I'm begging for your prayers and for a miracle from our Heavenly Father.

Father, bless Matthew with Your healing power. May there be a complete recovery so he will be free from all pain and will have full strength to walk without the assistance of cane. Bless him financially from the abundance of Your hand. If he is unable to return to police work, bless him with work he will enjoy. Pour out Your grace, Your mercy, and Your love to Matthew all for Your glory in Jesus's name. Amen.
Take care and God bless,

UPDATE: During the night Matthew gave everyone a scare. They were giving him the usual amount of pain meds and all of a sudden his BP started to crash. They Got him to sit up and stopped the IV drip and his BP came back up. Today when I came in his room they had had him walk across the room with a walker and a nurse holding a belt around his waist and now he was sitting in the chair. He soon wanted to go back to bed, but with the ordeal of getting him in the bed, the leg pumps for blood clots and warm blankets back on he was wiped out. It was no time and his back started to spasm and cramp. When the RN came in to give him a muscle relaxer and she heard him crying she knew his pain was off the scale. He said he felt he was reliving the accident all over again, so they have him heavily sedated so he came sleep and get some relief from the pain. He was in surgery for just over 4 hours and in recovery for an hour and a half. There is one surgical site in his back and another one through the middle of his belly, they had two surgeons working on him from both sides, not at the same time I don't think. For those of you that have had this type of surgery you know how the pain is. He is in a bad way right now, but hopefully will be a little better in the morning. Please continue to pray for him and the hospital staff, they are very good. ::pray::

I have had back surgery, probably not as bad as his but when your back is messed up, your whole body is messed up and nothing feels right and nothing works right.

A four hour operation and one and one half hours in recovery is a traumatic ordeal, the average time in an operating theater is under one hour.

I tried getting this out this morning, but with all the server problems I decided to wait, but here it is.

PRAISE GOD AND MANY THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS.
After they got the muscle spasms and cramping to subside the pain was much easier to control. We were able to take him home yesterday evening and he was ready to be in his own bed, now the long recovery process. The first pic is Matthew when he became a Field Training Officer. The next pic is Matthew ready to walk out under his own power, very slowly of course. BTW he started growing that darn beard the first day he had to go out on sick leave. We couldn't get the nurses to shave him while he was under.
My family and I are so blessed and grateful to have in our lives prayer warriors like all of you. Thank you so very much and may you and your families be blessed with with abundant love and grace from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Folks this is amazing, Matthew is now walking without the need of a cane! He still has a little pain in his back from time to time, but you wouldn't know it to watch him move. He still has to be careful as to how much weight his lifts and how he does it, but his condition is better than it has been in over two years. Praise God and to all of you that took a moment to pray for him thank you so very much.
