How common are 5 blade sowbelly knives

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

How common are 5 blade sowbelly knives

I see more fakes and counterfits than real knives. I have seen a couple of authentic examples here.

I know of at least 3 that belong to members here and I know of 3 others. I'm sure there are many more in collections. I would agree with you that there has sure been some "not true" 5 blades for sale as of late.

Old pre-WWII 5 blade knives are very uncommon in any US manufacture and configuration.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

As rare as hen's teeth, expensive as they get and as gorgeous as they come. ::tu:: ::tu::

Jim Sargent was a good friend to me and my father. Over the years his council and insight was very helpful. This is one of several Remington knives Jim sold me out of his personal collection. Mint Five blade sow belly.

Look at the faked patina on the pen blade next to the clip, I think these knives are one in the same. Opposite end blades match as well. I told Lyle once, this is how you can "fingerprint" a knife. ::nod::
