Can someone help identify the backsprings on this R100A knife?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

This old Remington R100A has covered back springs with PATENT PENDING on the cover. Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks, Ben

Your knife is the "standard dollar knife " Remington made 2 knives with a covered back spring that I know of. This one and a version of the R3333 scout knife.

Queen made barlows like that, probably more with covered backsprings out there as well. I happen to have a R100 A at home that I EDC around the farm, there is a R100 B too I think.

Here is a R105A
The R100B doesn't have covered back springs.

This knife seems to get quite a bit of talk.
