Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
Trail, that's averaging picking up one knife per week for the past three years.
That, my friend, is a nice average.

And enjoyed every minute of it! Of course, most of mine can fit in that "Dollar Knife" thread over in General Discussion, but as I like to point out, knife collecting is a great hobby for this slow economy, considering the chase is half the pleasure of the hunt. Anyway, thanks Paul for giving me an opportunity to post over here on this forum, these Remington beauties are few and far between, and dear when you find them. And plainsimplejim, I hope you're still around, reading the posts and picking up a knife now and then.
Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
This Remington jack is just a fine old knife. No wobble, half stops x2 and great strong springs. 3 5/8".
Zero information off the main tang, front or back.??
No number of either blade.

Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
FRJ,
Your knife is an R1823. It is THE most commonly found Remington knife, in my experience. It is actually rare to see one with either a pattern number stamped or an etch (Stockman has one with both if I'm not mistaken and has posted a picture somewhere on the site).
The reason is that these knives were frequently GIVEN away as premiums and advertisers. My understanding is that a million were given away by Wrigley alone as premiums. You also frequently see them as advertisers for "Baby Ruth" candy bars with a special "Baby Ruth" shield.

That is a nice one, I've never seen one with just the "Baby Ruth" etch, but quite a few with the "Baby Ruth" shield.
By the way, bigdaddy, those are some great old Remington's you have there, I especially like the pen knife.

Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
Is that the original bail on your scout knife or was it replaced? Most early Remington scouts (non official) have a different style bail without the two beads next to the pin. Remington had so many variations in their scouts its hard to tell whats what. Its always fun to discover yet another difference. By the way, that is a beautiful knife. I have not found a really nice one for my collection yet.Miller Bro`s wrote:Here is an old scout knife................

Yea I have quite a few, not many old ones though, here is a 1993 Salesman Sample Kit ( MADE in USA) I have had since 97. Been told there were around 5 of these made?? Had them up for auction, but too pricy for the small collector, has to be really into the Remingtons

Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
Awesome thread, Miller!
Mayn60, that 1993 salesman sample kit is sweet!
I have a few vintage (both folding and fixed blades) and several more modern Remingtons. Would like to one day have a set of modern Bullet knives. Below are 2 Barlows, one with a spear and one with a clip, and a pearl Lobster. Also throwing in a picture of my Remington shelf.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

That punch blade really gives that knife some added class.
