Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

BWT, you are looking at an original Remington Bullet R1253. There are 13 of these original Bullet patterns and as a group they are fairly rare and collectible. With regard to the R1253, it is one of the more commonly available Bullets, in my opinion, and more common to find.

Are you wanting to build a Bullet collection? If so, my advice would be to wait for a better example and pay a little more because you will be more likely to find a buyer should that need ever arise. If you are just dabbling with Remington as a brand and want some variety in your collection then this could be a fit for you if the price is right which, in my opinion, would be lower than numbers you have already read in the previous responses.

The cracked nail pull is a problem, in my opinion. The minor blade wobble and lazy close is typical for these large lock back knives, in my experience.

I marked up one of the pictures you provided with some of my observations.

Thanks Jerry, this is the first Remington I have found, vintage any way. I'm not a Remington collector, just older knives. I really like this one, will give it a little more thought.

Here is an interesting knife I think. R1882. 3 inches with slick black handles. The razor blade on a pocket knife confuses me. Can't imagine it was bought to shave with. Especially one this small. Anyway, I like the knife.

Keith, the blade isn't meant to be a razor. It is made that way so you can open it with one hand by catching the corner on your pants or something to open it. ::tu::

They were usually opened on a boot or shoe heel. Sometimes called a one arm knife. Very nice Keith . I have one also and they are scarce. Thanks for sharing.
