Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

Sweet Joe, I haven't measured down to the 1/16" but I'm curious what the catalog says. All of the catalogs that I have (LF&C) measure to the 1/8".

Thank you, Tom and Rocky.

Tom, knives measuring to 1/8" is more common, but measurements to 1/16" can be found. When the measurement is at a crisp 1/16" on the rule, as this one is, I always mention it.

I have two other Remingtons. A jack at 3 5/8" and a Muskrat at 3 15/16".

I agree 100% with you Joe - don't you have one of those antique Stanley boxwood caliper rules (No. 36 1/2R?) which would make 1/16 measurements easier?

Yes I do, Tom.
A caliper is always the tool to use for a very accurate measurement for knives and the Stanley 36 1/2
accommodates most pocket folders.

Really helps to have something like the caliper. One of my pet peeves on eBay is sellers who set their knives SOMEWHERE in the VICINITY of a ruler and then when you ask for the length they reply with, "It's sitting next to a ruler". ::facepalm::

Even with a ruler, you have to be careful to position your eye directly inline with the end of the knife to get an accurate measurement, moving your head (or camera) a little one way or another produces different results that can vary considerably.

It's a premium jack with nickel silver liners. ::woot::

Also shown with a like framed jack with no stamp on main tang and brass liners.
Thanks for looking.

Joe, that's a great old Remington. It's lucky to find one in such good condition and even luckier to pay $30! :)

Thank you, Jerry.
I feel lucky to find any knife in good condition at the flea markets I go to. No shortage of rough knives with broken blades.
This was a real treat.

I finally got a scout box. I don't have enough Remington scout knives to fill it yet but I'm working on it. The second picture it a neon light that isn't mine that works perfectly, I'm working on that too.

Nice vintage Scout display box Keith with the original patina and velvet - they are getting tough (and expensive) to find, congratulations.

Well it's been awhile since I've posted a few pictures... Here's a couple knives that are in my collection that I have not shared before. I have a few I need to take pics of and share...trouble is, it kicks my knife addiction into gear and leads to strong urges to purchase expensive knives! ::nod::  ::tu::

1. First is a rare Remington R645-F2 Bowtie Switchblade with guard and pyremite handles. Has strong etching and works like it's factory fresh.
2. Second is the Remington R305 with pyremite scales.
