Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

I picked this knife up in a lot and it was a junker as far as I was concerned. I got it and was surprised to see it had rough black handles on the mark side, which is common, but bone on the pile side. That's odd. Looking it over I'm fairly certain it's not been messed with. Then I noticed there might be an etch. I mess with it a little and there is an etch. I've not seen this knife with an etch before. Anyway, for a common, cheap knife it has a lot going for it.

Here's another Collector
I've been lurking on the forum and collecting for the last year. I've been gradually collecting the Bowen and Camillus runs of bullet knives to finish what my Dad had started. Now I'm diving off into the vintage side

My favorite so far has to be this R1123 by Bowen. It is one of the earlier reproductions before Camillus, from 1974, and is solid, snappy, and no cracks, and better in my opinion that the Camillus Bullet version I have from 1982.

Haven't got enough cash set aside to make the original R1223 comparison yet....but working on it :D

Thanks!

Keith, an interesting fact is that Endicott Johnson had both black bone and real brown bone on their knives. Also, another company was Hanover Shoes. May have been all part of the same company, anyone know? John

John just a quick comment. The two companies in discussion were not affiliated with one another other than in companies manufacturing shoes and participating in the sales of shoes. They may have bought or rented machinery from United but were in competition with one another in the Market in the 1920’s and 1930’s perspectively. This time frame was selected due to the manufacturing of the Remington knives in question. Great detailed info on the web concerning each of the companies in question.
My guess is what company A was doing company B was competing and trying to “one up” for the consumer’s patronage in it’s promotional items.

R3003
To my taste buds this knife has it all. Swell center, pinched grooved slanted bolsters, punch, big swooping clip blade.

Missed that one Keith, it is a great knife.

Picked up one of the metal handle single spey blade knives, blade looks unused, tang stamp poorly struck.
