Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
Greetings gents,
First post here and I just wanted to thank you all for your contributions and insight. I am new to collecting and have fallen deep into the rabbit hole already. AAPK has been a key source for researching all the different pieces I have come across. I never signed up before because I only had information to gain, and nothing to contribute.
What brings me here today is that I am STUMPED. I have what I feel is a fairly rare knife, of which I can find almost zero information on. The tang stamp places it between the 1924-1933. The model number is stamped R03. From what I've read, R is for Remington folding knife, 0 is the model number, and 3 is for the handle material, being bone, in this case. I have only found evidence of its existence by searching for Remington knife catalogs from the 20s and 30s. So far, I have found 3 ads (I'll post years and pictures when I'm at my computer) that show this knife. 2 of those ads show etching on the blade. Upon closer inspection, I can faintly see that there may be etching on mine, under all the buildup. The only difference I can see between mine and those I've found in the ads, is that mine only has 3 pins, while the others have 4.
As you can tell, it has seen better days, but I'm terrified of cleaning it as I'm a newbie and this seems to be something quite special. Does anybody have any info on this baby? I'm not looking for a price point, just want to know what I have.
Thank you!

Pattern Jack. Clip blade, bone handle. 3 3/8" Early Remington. If it was mine I would oil it, clean it some.

Handles are Bone. They are called "Bone Stag" 3 on your pattern number. Genuine Stag 6 on the pattern number.

Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
Much appreciated Harold.
Any advice on maintaining the (possible) blade etch?
I often see wd40 cited as a safe cleaner for projects like this. I have also seen brake cleaner reccomended. Do you have an opinion on either on these?
TIA

Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
That will be hard to do. I have saved a etch or two, but they were not as bad as your knife is. There is a section on AAPK about repairs ect.

Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
Welcome GB I'd stay away from WD40. especially on the bone. It's a great product but it has a lot of "drying" agents in it and that's not good for old bones, Soaking the blades in 3 in 1 oil or any oil will loosen the rust. The etch is kinda fragile, I'd go really lightly with any rubbing there. That's a great old knife. I'm Good luck. J.O.

Thanks for the advice JO
I'm at work and we have vegetable oil and dry lube blaster... but I think I'm going to play it safe and wait until I get home to bust out the CLP.
And thanks for the link Harold, I'll be reading through that thread later today.

Thanks Jimbo!
I won it in a lot of other vintage scout knives from auction. This one is definitely my favorite. I also scored a Camillus 75th anniversary edition NIB in that same haul.

Rocky, good to see you again. Because you are likely a squire from Virginia I feel like this R1133 English Jack is a good welcome back for you.AREMINGTONSEDGE wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 5:19 am Well I’ve got boxes and boxes and boxes of Remington knives and caboodle… might have to open a few and set a fire to this thread to get her lit up! Re: Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?
Very recently, this pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. However, it definitely turned out to be a keeper. It will be a welcomed addition to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is a REMINGTON R6483, two blades, three tang stamps, 3" closed, tipped bolsters, one spring, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "U.S.A. (vertical) REMINGTON (inside circle) MADE IN (vertical)" The main blade back tang stamp says, "R6483" The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "REMINGTON (inside circle)" The main blade does not have a half stop and no opening or closing snap. The secondary blade, what's left of it, also has no half stop, but it does have a good opening and closing snap. That little guy is still SHARP!! Overall, this pocket knife is still in GOOD condition. I gave it a minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.
