What Case knife is this?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

What Case knife is this?

Post by beresman »

I am certainly not a Case expert--I have a few Case knives, but my interests have taken me elsewhere mostly. However, I came upon this knife, and have found only a time period in which it was made. The only mark is "Case XX", giving me a range of 1940-1964 according to the tang stamp charts I have seen. There is no other marking--no model number or anything. The handles, while vaguely pearlescent, look to be synthetic to me--they're too homogenous to be a natural material, I think. The walk and talk is pretty good. There are no half-stops.

What do I have here? I'm presuming it's not anything special, since it was in a lot of what are basically junk knives. This one doesn't seem to be junk, though...

Thanks!

Now that I go out and look at others of that model number (92042), I think that it is. Apparently they didn't put model numbers on all their knives that long ago?

I agree, appears to be an 042 pattern. Looks like imitation pearl, which if so would make the pattern 92042.
