Odd factory sheepsfoot grind on a 6347 stockman

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Odd factory sheepsfoot grind on a 6347 stockman

Post by Lansky1 »

Guy says its a new unsharpened knife ... I've NEVER seen a #47 with the sheepsfoot blade ground like this. I know we have some crack Case guys here that can substantiate or disprove this .... whats the general consensus - is this a factory grind ?? A sheepsfoot without the point seems pretty useless to me ::shrug:: THanks -

Looks to me like the tip end of the sheepsfoot blade has been broken off. Most likely that's when the knife got put away in a drawer for decades.

To me, it was carried a few times, used, broke, then stuck in a drawer for years. The shape of the break looks just like something caused by prying.

Agree with what has been said, except I'm guessing the knife was used as a screw driver and the tip broke off.

What are we all doing up at this hour looking at sheepsfoot? Hate it when
knives are abused.

Yep - I think the consensus is spot on ... somebody re-ground that sheepsfoot tip. I think the picture with it closed & that regrind tip sitting far proud of the frame confirms this - Case would never sell a knife with a sharpened point above the frame.
