replacement scales?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

replacement scales?

Post by ahlangle »

I've got a mini-trapper, relatively new, with a broken "mother of pearl" scale.
Where do I find a replacement scale, and how do I put them on?

Thanks in advance!

Pearl is difficult material to work, and working with MOP can be a health hazard if you don't have the proper safeguards. So some knife mechanics don't do Pearl. Someone here may willing to do it.

You didn't say what brand the knife is. If it's Case you can send it to Case Repair http://www.caseknives.com and they'll fix it for you. On the Case web site home page scroll to the bottom, find Support, then Warranty and Repairs.
They put new MOP covers on one of mine recently. The cost was reasonable and the material and workmanship was outstanding.

Welcome to AAPK ::welcome:: ::welcome:: . Yes MOP is very fragile stuff. I have rehandled knives with all types of exotic woods, elk and deer stag, bone, acrylics, and fossilized mammoth tooth, but I have not done MOP, and don't know if I want to. Some one who specializes in MOP and has experience doing it would be your best bet. Maybe muskratman or Bill DeShivs??

Thanks guys! Also it is a Case, and the "mother of pearl" is actually plastic I'm 99% sure.
I will try sending it back to Case. But I think I bought it from a secondhand guy that may have put these plastic scales on it. Anyway, Ill get with Case and see.
Thnaks!

There should be a pattern number stamp on the tang of one of the blades. That number will tell you what material was used for the handle covers when it left the factory. Here's a link to the explanation of the numbers https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/co ... materials/
