case knife pattern

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

case knife pattern

Is there a name for this pattern? Is it rare? I read that number as 85641 but a web search didn't show this knife. Any info greatly appreciated.

Looks like a pattern 8364SSSC, made between 1964-69. The pattern number, or an abbreviated version of it, should be stamped on the pile (back) side of a blade. Not a particularly rare knife, but appears you have a nice one. Many of these were given as gifts and never carried much or if they were they saw only light duty as a "Sunday knife".

Up there ^^ at the top of the page you'll find a header with the word "RESEARCH" in it. If you click on it you'll be led to a world of great information including how to identify Case pattern numbers and their meanings, how to determine dates of manufacture, and other tidbits. Here's what you'll find https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/page/research.php.

It will help you a lot. For example the second character in the Case pattern number is the number of blades. Therefore a Case knife having three blades cannot gave a pattern number with "5" as the second digit. Suffix "SS" is for stainless steel, "SC" is for scissors. ::handshake::

Yes, same pattern. Except the one for sale in the link you referenced is a XX version, whereas the OP knife is a U.S.A. version.
