My Grandad's Case XX

I am fortunate enough to have my Grandad's Case XX #6244, built in 1975. Grandad died in 1986.
The knife is in great shape, and I carry it now and then.
One of the blades is stained with corrosion. Can I use a procedure to polish that out, or send it to Case for repair?
Maybe the best thing to do is let it be, and just regard it as a "Badge of Honor".
Any recommendations? Thanks.

Carry it with pride, cleaned or not.
Not many people in my world have their grandad's knife.

Oldwolf,
I never knew either of my granddads but I have several of my dad's knives and they are priceless to me. They are well used and once in a while I'll carry one.
I would encourage you to keep a close watch on that one and keep it lubed and it'll be there for a long time!

Very fortunate to have your granddads knife.

Not much of tarnish to worry about, looks more like some vintage patina. Keep it polished annually, and oil the joints.

Your very fortunate to have a gem like that. I have my grandfathers Case Stockman from the late 50's. It's always a pleasure to carry.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I really do value it immensely. Some day I will pass it on to one of my Grandchildren, it will be their Great-Great-Grandad's pocket knife.

Say, are the blades of my grandad's knife made of stainless steel, or carbon steel? It occurred to me after reading this thread again that I never asked that question.

It’s a great honor to have your grandfather’s knife, and it looks to be in very good condition.

As to sending it to CASE, there doesn’t seem to be anything to repair. It has carbon steel blades and they will take on a patina from use or carry. If you polish it out, you will remove metal. Look at the patina as proof that granddaddy used that one.

From here on out just wipe the blades down with a little oil, and keep the joints lubed with a light oil and it’ll be good for a long long time.

That’s what I would do. YMMV.

Thanks for the information. I do carry it now and then, but tend to carry my stainless knifes more often. That is just because I don't want to lose or damage my Grandads old knife.
