A couple of wounded Case folders
Hello all....
I picked up a couple of abused Case folders a few days ago. I got a chance to get out to my shop last weekend to see if I could sooth their pain. I pisses me off to no end to see a folder that has either had a hammer taken to them or a file put on 'em.
Anyway, the little pearl scaled folder has had the pattern number filed off. Recon y'all can figger it out?
I still need to see if I can order a scale medallion for the Russlock.
Before......
2 5/8 pearl scale folder... Then, with a little clean-up......
There is still some work to be done on the Russlock but it does look better now.

Well, looks like the little pen knife might be a 5233 (??)
I looked at a few images on google and it look like most of the 5233 pen knives had jigged bone scales.
Maybe y'all can enlighten me a little more.

Those knives look 1000% better. A great clean up. What did you use on cleaning up the blades?

Re: A couple of wounded Case folders
Mostly sandpaper. I used that "wet or dry" stuff you can get at Harbor Freight. I put some oil on it and went to town. Then I would keep graduating to the finer papers. Last i used was about 1000 to 1200.... whatever was laying there...LOL.
Last thing I did was put 'em under the buffing wheel to get a good shine.
Thanks for the complement. I love to rescue those poor abused knives.

Mike:
I checked both of Steve's books, and I think it might be a 3233. The books says USA Era 33's were made with Yellow Composition/Delrin handles and were discontinued in 1975. The photos in the book look very similar to your knife.
As far as your other knife with the missing shield, send a photo to WR Case & Sons and see if they'll send you a replacement and you can glue it back on. Hope this helps. And great clean-up job by the way. Those look fantastic!!

Thanks Mike....
Yep, I sent an email to Case to see if they would sell or just send me a shield.
We shall see.

Re: A couple of wounded Case folders
Those two are looking better already. I know what you mean about being "upset" about people taking hammers and files to knives. Another bad one is grinders, the electric power variety. My brother in law bought a couple of boxes of junk at an auction, and this old Keen Kutter was in there. What a sad story that must be to end up in the shape this one is in. Doesn't that almost want to make you cry?

OUCH!!!
Wouldn't like to be standing there in the shadows and when the grinder came out, then just walk over there and kick the ever lovin' crap out of that guy?
Then you could snatch the knife out of his hand.....

LOL....
Great job on the rescued babies MM.
You turned a couple of junkers into fine looking users. It's easy to be proud!!!

Re: A couple of wounded Case folders
Nice knife Joe.
I might just look around for another 3233 with one of the other 2 scale patterns.
I see from google images that the other 2 have the "case" shield but mine doesn't. AND I don't see a 3233 listed anywhere that has MOP scales.
Hmmmmmmmm...........Oh well, Onward!

If Case can't help, place a "Want-Ad" for that shield in the ad section. Perhaps another member has a spare one. I did that very thing for an XX era shield and one of the members had one and sent it to me. Also check eBay.Meridian_Mike wrote:Thanks Mike....

Re: A couple of wounded Case folders
That's a real nice Case Joe. I wonder if there was some way you could get those spider webs off the blades without removing too much metal. I hate spider webs, they ruin everything.FRJ wrote:Here's a 6233.

Thanks Meridian_Mike, and Mike.
I would never try to get rid of the spider webs. I own them with the knife. It's part of the deal.
It' a real nice Case.

Well, it took a while to get it BUT Case finally sent me a new shield for the Russlock. I am going to call this one finished and add it to my Case collection now.
Here she is, feeling much better now that she came to my ER for treatment...LOL.

This was before.....
How sad.
Makes you want to shake your head when you see what some people CAN do to a knife.
