Re: Ode To The 07
I've developed the opinion that Case has the attitude "We're Case. The knife buying community will buy whatever we put out the door". They make a lot of knives and throughput is an issue in their manufacturing process, sooo they are not very selective with their handles. They slap on whatever they grab and if a slab is too thick, they don't take the time and effort to grind it down from the back, they just haft it and take off enough to make it fit. If the hafting process goes through the jigging and color layer, so be it and you get what you have on the mark side of that knife and thusly what you consider a 'mismatch'. They are terribly bad about that with their stag. I think Case stag is so heavily hafted, it's pathetic. That stag 'look' is almost gone by the time they finish it. JMHO

I was at the Easton, PA knife show this morning & found this one - I've never seen this color pattern in a 6107W - really nice snap too.

I've been seeing something on that order listed lately. They're simply calling it 'gray'. I've been tempted but I really need to slow down. So far I've been able to stay strong.

Re: Ode To The 07
John, wouldn't you rather have something like one of these mint green, lime green or lemon-lime 6207Ws instead of that dull gray 6107W? I know how much you like bright, vibrant colors. Let me know if you ever want to swap.Lansky1 wrote:I've never seen this color pattern in a 6107W - really nice snap too.

Jerry - working in the peoples republic of New Jersey, I have a thing for single blade thin profile knives that don't print much that I can carry for work - the 6107W's probably get the most carry of all my mon-fri knives ...jerryd6818 wrote: Is this an experiment John, a budding addiction or are you adding to an existing addiction?

Re: Ode To The 07
That's a fine gathering of 107W's. I'm torn on the 107s. On the one hand, I'm not overly fond of single blade traditionals. On the other, the 107s are rich with Wharncliffe blades and I'm overly fond of those so that kind of cancels out the single blade prejudice.Lansky1 wrote:Jerry - working in the peoples republic of New Jersey, I have a thing for single blade thin profile knives that don't print much that I can carry for work - the 6107W's probably get the most carry of all my mon-fri knives ...jerryd6818 wrote: Is this an experiment John, a budding addiction or are you adding to an existing addiction?

Today's addition. It's not a Case but it is a Mini-Trapper and a fine one at that. Positive half-stops and decisive, loud snap. F&F is excellent. I'm impressed.

Re: Ode To The 07
Nice haul, jerryd...all are very good looking knives...and I'm glad that you finally got the RR White Jigged Bone LB Mini T with the Saxon Battle Axe Shield...that one's destined to become a classic collectible.
I'm still drooling over Lansky1's Grey 107W...this is the closest thing I have to it. Unfortunately, mine doesn't have the coveted wharncliffe secondary. So, the hunt continues...

Re: Ode To The 07
I managed to pick up this pair of 07 Ultraviolet Mini Trappers...One with Spey secondary (6207) and one with a Wharncliffe secondary (6207W). They also have different shields, too...so, not quite a "matching pair" in every detail, but close enough for government work.
Same goes for this pair of Winterbottom Bone Parker-Edwards. Obviously, they're not 07s (they're 55s), but they are Mini-Trappers just the same. The differences are pretty obvious, and yet, to me they do seem like a matching pair-- I'll let you decide for yourselves.

Re: Ode To The 07
Love the Silver Script Shield...I feel it is perhaps the best shield design Case ever came up with.
I read an explanation once that described in detail exactly how it's installed (wish I could remember where...could've even been in an AAPK thread but I think it was most likely in an eBay description). Apparently, it's quite an intricate operation involving a high-speed, Dremel-like tool to cut the shape of the letters into the bone. I don't recall if it was done by hand, but I remember thinking at the time that that seemed extremely labor-intensive if they had to do that for each and every knife. And, while I'm sure they must use a template, obviously there's not a whole lot of room for error due to the small width of the letters; one very tiny slip could easily render the bone scale unusable. After the bone was prepped, a pre-made nickel silver shield was fit and glued into the cut-out.
I guess I has assumed it was done with a CNC machine or something more automated like that that could churn out perfectly cut bone handle covers by the hundreds in very little time. Maybe that is how it's done...I really don't know. But, I sure do like the Silver Script Shield, however it's done.

Ignoring Mr. Smarty Pants ~Q~ and his egger on, John.
This one came in yesterday's mail. I bought it because it's different and because it has a Wharncliffe secondary blade. Color is pretty true to the pictures and that is a genuine flaw on the right end of the tang stamp.
