Ode To The 07

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

As far as "mini" knife patterns go, I don't find the -07 to be all that mini, which I like. A 3 1/2" knife isn't that mini in my book, but I find 3 5/8" to be darn near perfect for carrying. ::nod::

I agree Red. 3½" isn't all that "mini" but compared to the 4¼" regular sized Trapper, it seems small. Now as to the 3-5/8", we all know what perfect sized knife you're talking about there. ::tu::

Absolutely correct Jerry and I would be really good with that too. ::tu::

I have a red 6207W with the Case american flag shield in my pocket today, so this thread is appropriate ! Been liking the slimmer 6107W more lately, but the 2 blade version is tough to beat for all around versatility.

Makes me wonder how many varieties of those Carhartts they made. That's the first two blade model I've seen. Nice.

Not usually a big fan of bright colors such as the Persimmon Orange bone; so, I struggled for several months trying to decide whether or not to add this one to my collection. In the end, the fact that I collect the Case 107W pattern outweighed my lack of enthusiasm for the color and I finally pulled the trigger. After all, a collector collects, and I have collected one example of every 107W ever released by Case to date (except for the neon pink Bubba Gum Lady Case model, that one I just can't stand). So, despite my ambivalence toward the color, I simply couldn't abide missing a piece of my otherwise complete collection when it was still readily available and for a reasonable price. It also helped when my wife said it reminded her of the orange creamsicles we used to enjoy every summer at the ballpark when we were kids--a fond memory of the good ol' days!

Thanks, Steve.

Here's my latest 07 acquisition: 1990 Oatmeal Bone 1st ISSUE tang stamp. Not quite as bright as the persimmon bone, but notice the unusual profile of the Clip master blade compared to the typical Clip blade on a 207W.

Thanks, John.
Carhartt was my first guess as well since those are the only 107W models I have ever seen with the 'lazy duck' bolster. However, this mod has a mirror polished SS blade, and all the Carhartt 107Ws I own and have seen have an 'as ground' blade--so, I really don't know. I suppose the guy who did the mod may have also polished the blade, or perhaps used a blade from a different knife? ::shrug::

~Q~

PS--Thurman is the only name I was given when I asked who did the mod. I believe he's from Alabama. That's all I know.

Thanks, John.

And, BTW, thank you for turning me on to the Persimmon Orange 107W at Shepherd Hills. It took me awhile to pull the trigger on that one because I just wasn't all that crazy about the color. Bright orange still isn't one of my 'preferred' colors on a knife handle, but now that I have it in hand, it definitely is growing on me and I'm glad I got it.

Cheers & Aloha,
~Q~

PS--Still can't bring myself to purchase the neon pink Bubba Gum Lady Case 107W...just can't do it. ::barf::
So, I guess my otherwise complete 107W collection will forever remain incomplete due to lacking this one model.

Q - Yeah, I like the persimmon orange 107W - grows on me too the more I carry it. I have a cotton candy canoe - don't mind it, but don't think I could do the full out pink of the Lady Case either ... maybe if I could figure out how to remove the "Lady Case" etch from the blade

Got it! Interesting thing about this one...notice that the pattern number does not have a 'W' to denote the Wharncliffe blade. I've never seen a Case knife with a Wharncliffe blade that did not have either a 'W' or 'WH' in the pattern number. I wonder why this one doesn't? Very strange.
